What Guests Are Saying
Sheridan Lake offers great tent and RV camping with spacious, shaded sites and a beautiful lakeside location, perfect for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The clean facilities and friendly hosts enhance the overall experience, despite some concerns about limited infrastructure and cellular service. While some campers noted noise from generators and construction, many found the setting peaceful and enjoyable, making it a desirable spot for future visits.

The campsite was very nice, but the vault toilet was the filthiest this experienced camper has ever seen. There was a cleaning schedule on the door which had been initialed through the end of the whole week when we arrived on Monday, and it was never cleaned once. The flies were thick and their buzzing echoed in the tiny enclosed space. Be warned not to rent a campsite within three spaces of the bathrooms!

The campground was quiet and scenic. It’s about two to three miles from a nice convenience store with fuel at the intersection of highways 16 and 385. For ten dollars you can use the RV dump station at the RV park across the road from the store. Propane bottles can be filled at Nelson’s Gas just a few miles beyond the store, just before you get into Hill City. You can purchase firewood by the bundle for six dollars at the check in station to the campground. The staff/camp hosts were nice, helpful and accommodating. There are water spigots for filling containers (cannot attach a hose), dumpsters and toilets conveniently located throughout the campground. I’m glad we had a toilet in our trailer so we didn’t have to use those provided in the campground. There is no AT&T cell signal within a few miles of the campground. Campsites are spread out and have plenty of room for spreading out. Picnic tables are concrete frames with bench seats and tops of wood. Metal fire rings with heavy-duty metal grates are at each site and great for campfires and cooking. The lake and forest are inviting. The directions to the campground that we received by email with our reservations could be made more clear by instructing campers to enter the campground at the South Entrance for which there is a large sign on the highway, rather than by the street name which is marked by a comparatively small sign. The road from the highway to the campground is narrow for two way traffic with RVs. The campground is located within a short drive of most of the major attractions in the Black Hills. Our longest drive was 40 minutes to Rapid City. Our family of four enjoyed camping here and would do so again.

Directions to camping for individual sites should be more clear and specifically state “south shore” Entrance which is accessed from calumet road. Group camping, marina and picnic area is on north shore.
Our site was well maintained and had nice trees with lake beyond.

Sheridan Lake was beautiful! It was pet and kid friendly and our neighbors were all very nice and welcoming. There wasn't a ton of privacy but it was spread out enough that you could make your own privacy if you wanted. We would definitely recommend this campground.

Peaceful but bad roads and campsites.

Campsite was great! We had enough room to navigate our moving truck and car that was being towed. Very open, not loud. The only thing that rated poorly was the outhouse. It wasn’t clean, it seemed full and overall was horrible to use. Other than that, we enjoyed the overall campsite!

This was hands down the best camo site I've been too. The distance between sights was amazing and everyone there was very respectful of quiet time.

Bathrooms were pretty gross and the hosts weren’t wearing masks which was bothersome to us, but the site was spacious and had a great amount of shade.
