What Guests Are Saying
Sheridan Lake offers great tent and RV camping with spacious, shaded sites and a beautiful lakeside location, perfect for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The clean facilities and friendly hosts enhance the overall experience, despite some concerns about limited infrastructure and cellular service. While some campers noted noise from generators and construction, many found the setting peaceful and enjoyable, making it a desirable spot for future visits.

It is almost impossible to level a camper in campsite 118 in Rocky. Something needs to be done to level out that site or make it tent only or something. When we finally got leveled, we had an awesome time. The site is close enough to fishing and the lake to be very pleasant, large enough for a family gathering, and far enough away from other sites to be quiet. Only the leveling is a problem.

Camped at Sheridan Lake (South) campground off and on since the '60's so I've seen it change over the years, some for the good, some not. At one point the entrance to the campground was configured like a high security area with ' spring loaded drive across tire stop devices' aka - you couldn't drive against the device without puncturing your times - something totally against the theme of camping in a National forest campground. That scenario is long gone. The front entrance is now user friendly, manned by folks who want to be there and help in any way they can.
The campground is fairly well maintained. There are volunteers who cleanup but they could do a better job. I understand it's a 'volunteer effort' but if you're going to get a free spot in the campground in exchange for service work, then the service work effort needs to be equivalent to being paid for your work.
Campground is large with a good number of sites. Weekends during the summer WILL be busy as many locals utilize the campground. Sites are well spaced and laid out so that you're not camping on top of your neighbor (GREAT!). Pit toilets are cleaned well, for the most part (more effort could be expended here, especially during / after a heavy weekend's use.
The only major drawback is a complete lack of program presentation. The Forest Service used to have regular programs presented at the amphitheater. According to front entrance personnel this hasn't happened in years. I'd strongly encourage its resumption with proactive alerts given to campers as they enter the campground. These presentations help educate folks about the National Forests and their use, sustainability factors, and what can be found within (flora & fauna).

Loved coming back to the lake I grew up on as a kid 30 years later... My memories didn't disapoint. That is, I had as much fun this past summer as I did 30 years ago... And was surprised my secret fishing spots were still there! Will definatly NOT wait 30 years to come back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Sheridan Lake. The sites were well spaced apart. We loved being surrounded by all of the trees. The walk to the lake was so peaceful. A little pricey but we totally plan on going back and have set our sites on a spot next to the lake. The bathrooms were clean and I appreciated the room spray 😃 The location was very convenient. Only a few miles from major attractions and very easy to get to. I believe it was 12 miles to Mnt Rushmore. This is definitely a campground I will and have recommended to others.

This was the least favourite part of our summer adventure! No comfort stations available here, only pit toilets, there wasn’t even a water tap to wash your hands with the outhouse by the our campsite. No shower facilities either. The campsite we had was in a hollow so we pitched our tent on the “parking” area provided, in case it rained, which it did, heavily!
