Sheridan Lake

I've visited Sheridan Lake CG several times and always had a great experience. This time a nearby camper ran his construction sized generator all day long which was hard to ignore. I was also surprised with a "pet fee" that was added upon arrival. Still, the folks running the camp were great and it was another nice time in the Black Hills.

Nice forest service campground. I would give it five stars when they replace picnic benches. The existing ones are quite old.

Beautiful campground. Stayed a week in spot 70 tent camping. Sites are spacious, not crowded together. Fire ring with grate, picnic table in the site, vault toilets were clean and maintained , potable water spigots spaced around the sites. Great camping

It's a wonderful campground and the lake was full. And this year we saw fireflies. We have been coming here for quite a few years. The only disappointment was the concessionaire now charges a separate $5.00 per vehicle for the swim beach. This was never the case before. Still a great place to camp.

I booked this site specifically because the map made it appear that we would be directly across from my mother-in-law’s campsite. Being close to family was the main reason I chose this site, but in reality we ended up much farther apart than the map suggested. That alone really put a damper on our weekend.

The sites are advertised as being suitable for larger campers, but getting level was a challenge. The rear of the site was so low that I had to use every leveling block I owned just to make it work, and even then it took a lot of maneuvering. The layout also doesn’t seem to be designed with RV campers in mind. The door and awning side faced one direction while the fire pit and outdoor area were on the opposite side. Trees also prevented me from opening my awning. After walking around the campground, I noticed that most of the sites had similar issues.

What made the experience worse was the camp host. They frequently walked by our site staring and making comments. On several occasions, they stood in their doorway watching us while we were simply trying to enjoy our weekend. It made us feel uncomfortable and like we had very little privacy.

Overall, between the misleading map, the difficult site layout, and the uncomfortable interactions with the camp host, this was a disappointing experience. We camp often and understand that no campground is perfect, but this stay did not meet our expectations and unfortunately took away from what should have been an enjoyable weekend.
