Sheridan Lake

Amazing camping experience! The pines, fresh air, lake view, and local amenities were superb. Can't wait to return!

We love this campground. We come back every year. This year we were sad to be informed that you don’t get into the lake with the camping pass now. You have to pay for a daily, we have been coming for 6 years.

First night at reserves site I moved to a quieter spot with only 2 other campers in the distance. Man in site next to mine was exposing himself often & entry shed was closed. No one around so I simply moved sites intending to notify host of the change. Next morning I let them know I had moved sites so they could open the reserved one to someone else as the protocol on line said that was acceptable on locations site & Res.gov site. Independent operator has their own restrictions not noted on the other two sites so I didn't know I couldn't move even though the campground was not nearly full. They were forcing me to stay where I was reserved or pay for the "extra" site. I had 3 nights reserved. I left after one night. I can not recommend Sheridan Lake campground due to the rude & inflexible independent operator at this National Forest Service campground. It is not what it seems to be. Beware. Don't reserve sites without fully exploring all & researching thoroughly. Chose your site very carefully or opt for first come first serve. This camper will never be back to Sheridan Lake as long as it's run by whoever is running it now.

Sheridan lake is a very beautiful place to go to! Nice and peaceful and private. Campsites are spaced and laid out very nicely. Highly recommend going here

Quiet

A really beautiful campground. A great base camp for exploring the Black Hills. Surrounded by pine trees, spacious sites, and close to the lake for swimming and fishing and to the Flume trail for hiking. We tent camped for three nights and really enjoyed it. The toilets were tidy, trash easy to access, as was the water spigots. My only complaint is that many of the RVs in the park ran generators for much of the day. One nearby us started their generator at 6am and turned it off only before bed. We mostly lucked out that we weren't right next to a site using a generator but it does detract from the otherwise quiet and tranquil campground.

Love this place! Great way to start our Black Hills vacation for a night or two.

Great campground!

Well.... the campground was nice. Id stay there again however spot # 3 is the absolute worst and I would not stay at that spot again. Its not a tent camp spot no matter what the reservation site says. Rv or camper only. I asked to be moved to a more "tent friendly" spot but was told id have to pay for it. (there were at least 20 open spots) All i wanted to do was trade. We got everyone's head lights coming in after dark. All the vehicle noise. Anytime the wind blew from the south the wonderful stench of the bathroom and garbage floated through our site. I'm not from there and didnt know what to expect but I'd definitely stay at the campground again but site 3 is not for me

High expectations and low satisfaction. It would of saved me a lot of time and trouble had the check in kiosk attendants would have said we are wondering if you will fit before I went in and got tangled in the trees on the narrow road and a camp spot claimed to be for a 60 ft vehicle. After getting unstuck and coming back around and saying, We wondered if you would fit. I have a 57 ft truck and trailer. They continued to tell me they had pull through spots and when we asked if they thought I would fit we were told don’t know never seen it. The person who assisted me getting unstuck said he had been camping here for 30 plus years said it used to be only tents now he sees people tearing up their equipment and trees trying to get in there and then getting out. WE DID NOT END UP STAYING HERE. We are still trying to get a refund.
