What Guests Are Saying
Blue Heron Campground is well-maintained, peaceful, and offers clean facilities, making it a favorite for many visitors. The proximity to hiking trails, especially the Blue Heron Loop, adds to its appeal. While some campers noted noise from nearby children and the absence of a campground host, the overall atmosphere is friendly and the campground provides a great outdoor experience.

My wife and I have been visiting Blue Heron for the last 15 years. Love it. This time we were next door to a "Karen". It sometimes just takes 1 person to screw up fun. She did.

First, the setting in outstanding. The hookups and facilities are first rate. Mid-week it was nice and quiet. Pulling a trailer on the winding KY back roads was a bit of a challenge.

Great little campground close to plenty of trails, we did some kid friendly (short distance - big payoff) hikes to some overlooks and a waterfall. We also enjoyed the Scenic Train ride from Stearns to Barthell Coal Camp. Only downside is there is no camp store so you have to go into Stearns to buy firewood, all in all, not a big deal. The only other thing I wish we'd known before we went is that the bookstore/gift shop/ranger station at Blue Heron Mine is only open on weekends until 4pm.

Absolutely loved this Campground! Large sites, beautiful area, friendly campers. If you are going to visit, use the site guides in the app, we saw 2 people who didn’t believe the length of the site and had difficulty.
We would and will visit again.

Never once saw a ranger in a week's time at the campground. The limit of one vehicle and a camper was not enforced. Also a campground map with site number would be nice as the is no one to greet when you arrive.
