Our weather was dry, and windy, but so much fun. The staff, visitors, and people we met in Boquillas were all great. Be ready to see animals wandering through the park (horses, cows, and Javelina) and many birds. Be sure to hike lots, drink lots (water mostly), and visit the hot springs with your swim suit. The hot springs are awesome in the early morning, and late night with stars.

The campground has space so you don't feel on top of each other. We really tried hard to book into Chisos Campground which was more in the middle of the park, but it was impossible to get an open spot. The only problem with Rio Grande is that 20 mile ride to Chisos and then on from there. But we got over it and enjoyed our time.
We didn't realize we can't hang a hammock on the trees, so we got informed by the ranger.
There are definitely coyotes nearby and in the campground at night. Also, wild horses, boar and deer.
There was no cell service, but wifi at the camp store, not too far away; as well as showers and gasoline.
Overall it was a very nice place to camp. Some spots have a shelter which is great if you're there during the afternoon because the sun in very hot, even in April.

Campsite was amazing and super close to the restrooms. The restrooms in the campground were super clean but can't say the same about the ones at the Rio Grande Village store. Overall, amazing.

The park is beautiful but the facilities are rough almost like nothing got updated since 60-s. Be prepared for no phone reception and lack of food facilities.

This was one of my favorite National Park campground experiences. We saw coyotes, road runners, javelinas, horses, donkeys, and mules at the camp throughout our stay. The nature trail that starts right at this campground made for a great walk at sunrise. The overlook from the end of the trail offers a great view of the campsite as it sits right on the Rio Grande. If you plan to book a day river trip through Hot Springs Canyon, staying here may give you extra time to relax or explore. Our guides through Big Bend Boating and Hiking Company arranged pickup and drop off nearby, which saved us hours of travel time we would have spent driving to and from Terlingua.

From Interstate 10, take State Highway 385 south to Fort Stockton and into Marathon. From Marathon, drive 40 miles (62 km) (south on State Highway 385 to the north entrance of Big Bend National Park. Drive straight for 26 miles (42 km) to Park Headquarters at Panther Junction. Turn left and proceed for 20 miles (32 km) to the Rio Grande Village area. Turn left at the stop sign and follow signs into the campground.

Do not reserve campsites that you are not planning to stay in. A camper arriving the day AFTER the reservation begins is considered a No Show. A No Show may result in a cancellation of your ENTIRE reservation. Contact the park at 432-477-2251 if you are late or will not be arriving until the day after your reservation starts. |

Check-in Time. You may occupy your campsite anytime after 1:00 PM. Your site will be marked. There is no official check-in procedure. |

Campfires. NO wood or ground fires allowed at any time. Charcoal may be used in the raised grills provided at each site or on a charcoal or propane grill. |

Generators. Many sites are in a NO generator zone. From November 1 until April 30, Generator hours are 8:00AM-11:00AM and 5:00PM-8:00PM. May 1 through October 31, generator hors are8:00AM-8:00PM. Read the site details carefully before selecting a site. |

Food Storage Lockers/Bears & Wildlife. Bears, javelinas and bobcats frequent the area. All food must be kept in approved containers or in a hard-sided vehicle. Trash must be disposed of in the animal-proof dumpsters provided. Coolers or food boxes may not be unattended at any time. Cattle will sometimes cross the river from Mexico to graze on the grass in the campground. Please treat the cattle as you would any other wildlife by keeping a safe distance. |
