What Guests Are Saying

Moon Lake Campground is praised for its beautiful scenery, spacious sites, and friendly staff, making it a great spot for outdoor activities and relaxation. However, it has faced ongoing issues with its water supply, resulting in no running water and reliance on porta potties, which some found to be poorly maintained. Visitors recommend checking for events at nearby facilities to avoid noise disturbances and suggest that improvements are needed for the campground to reach its full potential.

Moon Lake Reservoir was an amazing experience...We loved our stay here. We camped at #19 campground and it was a beautiful camp spot as were all the camp spots throughout! We brought our dogs and several others campers staying here had dogs as well.
It was very well maintained and clean.
We stayed for 3 nights and we did not want to leave! The reservoir was beautiful and was not crowded at all. It was a short walking distance from our camp spot and the fishing was great! We loved how the campground is surrounded by beautiful lodgepole pines and tons of hummingbirds buzzing around!
All the campers that were staying at the campground were very respectful towards others camping there as were we. There is fresh drinking water in faucets throughout the campground that we used to keep our trailer full with needed water. We ran our generator on occasion to keep the battery charged in our trailer. The quiet time starts at 10 pm nightly and we never heard anyone abusing that. There is bathroom facilities with flushing toilets and very clean.
Within walking distance in a separately ran resort, called the Moon Lake Resort, I believe it is privately owned, not ran by Rec.gov! We walked over there and they have a small store and beautiful cabins, horse riding, and boat & kayak rentals. We talked to amazing people who were working at the resort. It hd the feeling of the "Good Old Days!"
Our overall experience here at the Moon Lake Reservoir was so enjoyable that we WILL be coming back! Well worth it and we had such a pleasurable time.

Would love to tell everyone the place is awful, but that would be a total lie! This campground and area are amazing even after the fires the burned much (but not all) of the area's forests. Campsites are well kept, the bathrooms are pretty clean, other campers when we were there were respectful and friendly. Dogs were USUALLY on a leash, but be warned - not always. Loved the lake and canoeing on it. It's bigger than you think. Duchesne is about 30 to 40 minutes away. Cell service is about a 15 minute drive toward town. Oh, an the ice cream at the little log cabin resort of Moon Lake Resort is fabulous! Our second time here and we'll be back. Note: We have been twice on Memorial Weekend. One year it was sunny and in the upper 60's each day. This time we had a bit of wind, rain and snow. Springtime in the Rockies goes either way. If you're tent camping, I recommend waiting til mid June.

we unfortunately were in a camp spot that was washed out in a severe rainstorm. The host came to warn us to move to higher ground which we appreciated. She reported this was a repeat of a storm the previous week when there was a flash flood. We just wish we had a warning to be prepared as the rain began, instead of a panicked dash after 90 minutes of rain.

I love the tall trees that surround the campground and the trees provide plenty of shade. The camp spots had plenty of room between each site. The camp hosts were wonderful and so nice. There was a flood that washed out most of the campground two days before we arrived and it was all cleaned up when we got there, they did an amazing job with all the labor they put in. The fire from last year devastated the surrounding mountains, but the campground was not harmed by the fire. Although the lake level was only at 13 percent capacity, that made more room for extra beach to play on. I was neat to see Hummingbirds flying around and Deer roaming around the campground. It was also nice to have flushing toilets and a store nearby to purchase things.
