Another excellent trip to the Gorge. Great to see our friend Ken, Campground Host again. The facilities there continue to be very well kept. Lots of fun jumping off of the cliffs, kayaking, paddle boarding, jet skiing, boating and floating the river with a raft rental from Dutch John Resort again. Can't wait to go back again.

While the Flaming Gorge is wonderful and we soaked in all it's natural beauty, our campsite was terrible. It seemed that the fire pit had recently been moved, so there was a giant ring of ashy pillowy dirt in the center of the site. In addition, there were loose rocks everywhere - as if a truck load of 8" loose broken sandstone had been dumped in the site in multiple places - making it hazardous and really difficult to move around without tripping over loose rocks that tumbled when you tripped over them - like a screefield of small rocks. Lastly, there are not enough rules and enforcement of existing rules around generator use so there was a constant hum of engines around us - not exactly easy to take a moment of quiet refuge in nature when 3-6 generators are humming at all times. This a a growing problem when camping anywhere in the west and it sucks.

One of the reasons to stay in this campground is availability to get a shower. However, the showers are closed until 10 am and closed before one returns from a normal day's activities. So from a practical sense; there is no reasonable access to the showers.
Additionally, there are a lot of campers, even those with tents running loud generators all day and all night. This seems to be the new outdoor experience.
I know I am sounding old and grumpy but it is how I see it.

The trip immediately started off with a bad attitude from the camp host who immediately informed us while parking our trailer that the street legal side by side could not leave the trailer, we argued (even though we had zero intention of unloading in the site) and eventually he just left only to return about a hour and a half later to as he put it to "eat crow" for being wrong. A clear indication that no attempt was made to know or understand the actual rules until after an argument, secondly the sites were clearly not properly maintained as there should be a rock layer surrounding the metal insert for the fire ring. At the same time the blacktop and pavement is overly worn down and cracking off making it a danger to even walk around your site. Id probably be able to overlook this if it were not for the condescending camp host. At one point there was a truck blocking the exit of the site just a bit so to avoid hitting it, waiting, or causing issues with the entrance lane our tire went maybe a inch off the pavement. immediately the same camp host that was at the heat of all these altercations stepped in front of the truck demanding that we roll our window down, which we did. as we did he proceeded to ream us a new one about touching the dirt and how we should have risked a bigger accident by going through the entrance, by this point we just nodded and left to do the trip we were going to do. If it was not so super cool up at the George I'd probably never return because of that one host's attitude.

A favorite destination. This campground is close to a boat dock, Sunny cove and has showers available. A perfect place to explore Flaming Gorge or raft down the Green River.
