About Red Cliffs Campground

Red Cliffs Recreation Area includes a campground, day use areas, a non-motorized trail system, and interpreted public use sites. Dinosaurs left their footprints, now visible in the sandstone. Ancestral Puebloans lived here in the 10th century, growing corn, beans, and squash along Quail and Leeds Creek. Mid-19th century pioneers farmed here, supplying the area’s silver miners with food. Located within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, the Recreation Area is managed to conserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of the public lands.

Because it was Spring Break there were many day visitors and the two restrooms by my site ran out of TP in the evenings and were not refilled until in the morning after I had gone hiking. Fortunately I carry some for emergency and shared with three different families. Not sure what the others did.

There are 11 campsites that are set in this beautiful location. We will be back! However, this is a very busy location. Hundreds of visitors come each day and try to find parking. There is a payment booth as you enter but even on a Saturday there was nobody there. It makes it less peaceful with cars coming through hoping to find parking and we had 15+ cars ask if they could park in our campsite since we had extra space. A sheriff and BLM management did come through a few times. I think there is only one restroom location and it was near campsite 5. It would be quite a hike if you were in site 11.

BLM needs to keep the numerous Day-Use visitors from continually circling the campground looking for parking and often parking in the marked and reserved campsites.

Was very clean and looked like it had some nice trails. The weather did not cooperate for us so we didn't get much hiking in, we would like to go back at some point

What a hidden gem! I loved this campground tucked in the beautiful Red Rocks. It was super clean, with a pavilion covered table, water, and big fire pit at each site. The surrounding hikes were awesome. Will definitely be back!

Gorgeous campsite tucked away in a section of red rock near the highway but you wouldn’t know it. The night time is great, gorgeous view of the stars, very quiet and peaceful. The day time on weekends was pretty hectic with the day use crowd. Preferred this campground when it was first come first serve.

We love the campground overall, but there is too much day-use traffic (granted it was just Presidents’ Day weekend). They should limit Day-use access further. Bathrooms ran out of toilet paper one of the afternoons/evenings. Restocked the next morning.
Overall, beautiful setting and small, cozy feel once the day-users leave. Beautiful setting.

DO NOT BOOK, 10 minutes before we pulled up our Apple Maps rebooted and told us we couldn’t make it cause the road was closed so we called the “campground” which has no number and literally no way to reach them directly. They were doing last minute construction for the exact time we had stayed and we ended up at a campground nearby and several other families had the same issue as us and Recreation.gov will NOT give us a refund. It’s absolutely ridiculous. F them
