What Guests Are Saying
Cougar Rock Campground offers spacious, clean sites with good privacy and easy access to Mount Rainier trails, making it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. The bathrooms are well-maintained, although some reviewers noted a lack of warm water and soap. Challenges include difficult campsite reservations and occasional issues with nearby campers, but the overall experience is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Be aware if you use a tent, the tent pad is much too close to the fire pit to build a fire.

Cougar Rock is a wonderful campground with easy access to Paradise Visitor Center. My husband and I have been camping here for over 30 years. In the last several years the campground seems to cater more to RVs rather than those of us that still tent camp. If you tent camp be aware that this site has a large boulder sitting on the left side of the tent pad. We had to set our REI Dome on the boulder and only use the right side of the tent.

Nice campground but it needs some love. Also the campground was understaffed, only one person that was way overworked and he was dealing with way too long of a line of walk up campers trying to check in.

Spent the weekend in Mount Rainier National Park in early October & had a great stay at Cougar Rock Campground. We came mid-afternoon on a Friday & a number of camping spots were still open. The campground manager was kind & assigned us a spot near the river after I asked if there was one nearby. The campground was clean & well taken care-of, with full working bathrooms & clean running water. Remember to bring your own firewood, as foraging for wood on wilderness land damages the ecosystem (and isn't allowed). The campground sold firewood bundles, but they close at 5pm so come early if that's something you need. So grateful to have nice facilities to enjoy a beautiful weekend in nature!

Cougar Rock campsite A11 (Loop A) isn't an ideal "tent" campsite. The pad for the tent is only 30-40 yards from the main road leading up to Paradise - lots of traffic. In addition, the position of the campsite in relationship to the Loop A access road stinks . . . (It is in the direct line of all on-coming vehicles; and, after dark, I can't tell you how many times I was blinded by some bonehead with his/her/their bright lights on . . . ) My buddy and I scoped out the other loops available in the Cougar Rock Campground and will definitely be choosing Loop B, Loop C or Loop D in the future.
On the other hand, the Rangers on duty around 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 5 were great . . .

We love Cougar Rock. We usually camp at the end of the season because it is less crowded. Staff are helpful and friendly

great campground; first come first served worked well for me. I was able to accomplish numerous hikes from this location; my favorite was Comet Falls/Van Trump Park. The rangers were exceedingly friendly and well-informed.

Very clean. Very organized. There was a Burn Ban so no campfires.
