Cougar Rock Campground offers spacious, clean sites with good privacy and easy access to Mount Rainier trails, making it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. The bathrooms are well-maintained, although some reviewers noted a lack of warm water and soap. Challenges include difficult campsite reservations and occasional issues with nearby campers, but the overall experience is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Beautiful area. Water available at common spigot and bathrooms were good. Campsite was small but sufficed as we didn’t spend much time there during the day. Campground was only partially open due to time of year. Campground location was convenient

We were fortunate to get a first come/first serve spot in September. The ranger was nice and super helpful. And the campground is lovely - spaced out well, amazing trees, unique sites throughout. We'll be back!

This is a very pleasant campground to stay at when you visit Mt. Rainier. We are able to get a campsite in the shoulder season easier than in August.

Cougar Rock campground is a cute campground in an awesome environment. However, sites were generally not level, no services, no dump or potable water fill. There is no cellular service in the area and because of the tree coverage, solar and Starlink are problematic. The campground does offer small bathrooms with flush toilets, utility sink, bottle fill station and bear safe food storage.

I was lucky to snag this spot in the late evening when it was on a first come, first served basis. The site is small, as the tent pad had enough space to fit my 2-person tent comfortably but that was it. Any larger of a tent could be an issue as there's this random log that's standing up-right on the site so that cuts off part of the available surface area. Maybe if the 4-person tent faced the cars, then that could work to get in/out of the tent. In addition, there are about 3 steps up from the car area to the tent pad. The restrooms are close, but not super close as the closest one is in Loop C. Other than that, the spot was great!
The pictures make the driveway look big, but I would say it could fit a 4Runner from a length standpoint before parts of the car start sticking out into the road.

Many, if not most, of the sites are not level. It was challenging to get our camper van reasonably level. And there is no WiFi coverage in the campground - you need to get near a visitor center to get coverage.
