Thanks to the staff and volunteers. We stayed twice this year during Gauley season!
Easy check in . The RV folks camping there were quiet and good neighbors to us tent campers.

Campground sites are mostly on the lake shoreline. Excellent place to camp if you love the lake, trails, and just relaxing. Bring your kayaks, lake toys, bikes and whatever else you enjoy. I have camped at this campground for thirty years. My only complaints would be that the campground used to have 6 horseshoe pits, removed 5 of them and did not replace them with anything. Also, in the early spring and late fall the campground management closes some of the campground and forces everyone to camp in a couple sections in the front. These times are May 1st to Memorial Day Weekend and the last couple weeks in the fall. This causes everyone to be camping on top of each other in a couple sections of the campground. Myself, when I go camping I like to have some space. Until they go back to leaving the entire campground open and let campers spread out you may want to consider avoiding these times.

First time being there when the lake is being drained for winter and the scenery was so different . Unique to say the least. Can’t wait to go back in the spring when it’s being filled !

Camp ground was very well designed. First Come system permitted selection of good sites with a view during the week. Very cost effective, especially if you have a federal parks pass. Most sites were quite level. Many good views of the lake. Noticed that some campers, apparently from nearby, set up a few days early to secure prime sites for the weekend. Very quiet at night. A pleasant experience. I would definitely consider going back.

Even though there is a no pet policy, there were several dogs there, five to be exact. One looked like it may be a service dog but the rest were definitely not. Either lift your dog policy or make people show documents to prove it’s a service dog.

Stopped in without a reservation and was pleasantly surprised we got a site. The Host was very helpful. The bathhouse and laundry were clean and well kept. The campground itself was also well maintained. Unfortunately the lake had been drawn down probably 20’ or more so there was a lot of shoreline. Will definitely stop there again.
