What Guests Are Saying
Mammoth Campground is praised for its beautiful scenery, convenient location near Lamar Valley, and friendly hosts who maintain a clean environment. Many campers enjoyed the spacious and accessible sites, as well as the wildlife sightings, particularly elk and bison. However, some visitors noted that only one bathroom was open during their stay, leading to inconvenience, and there were occasional issues with campsite reservations. Overall, it's considered a great spot for exploring Yellowstone, especially in the off-season.

Site was big enough, level, and private enough. Water readily available. Bathrooms clean with water and flush toilets.

Check-in was easy, hosts were kind and helpful, bathrooms were clean. My site was exposed to the sun all day so I'm glad I brought a canopy for shade and for an afternoon thunderstorm we experienced one day. The sites were very close together so expect togetherness. I found that not all campers followed the rules as some people left their stoves out when camping in bear country and we were told to store ours in the bear box. The site next to us had 5 (yes, five!) tents on it but they were quiet for the most part. The restroom access for this site was a short, steep, uphill hike from the site or a more level walk but further away restroom. While every other site had an in-ground fire pit the one at my site looked recently replaced and above ground throwing less heat but it was warm on my visit so I didn't mind. Keep in mind Mammoth Campground is about 10 degrees or so warmer than the rest of the park. Additionally, since Mammoth is so far north in the park, it takes about 90 minutes to get anywhere else in the park.

Overall experience was positive but was upset that when my kid got sick the volunteers in the rangers station couldn’t tell me where to get services. It was not a 911 emergency so I was out of luck. My kid had a migraine but I wanted to make sure it wasn’t something more serious. Finally the volunteers googled (which I couldn’t do because NO CELL SERVICE for camper but obviously the volunteers had internet access) where to go and I was told the nearest emergency room was in Lincoln. There should be an Urgent care that is staffed until at least 11Pm. The clinic in Mammoth closed at 5Pm.

This spot said you can tent. While you technically can tent, it’s all gravel.
Do not stay on this spot if you planning to use a tent.

Nice site. We enjoyed the campground and location for exploring the north side of yellowstone. Flush toilets were good, and site was great for fitting our travel trailer (28ft long).

Beautiful campground with amazing views. Very well maintained and clean. The host stopped by to check on us at one point. Conveniently located next to park entrance and Mammoth hotel. Appreciated the on-site bear box, fire pit, and picnic table.
