What Guests Are Saying
Mammoth Campground offers a beautiful natural setting with clean facilities and stunning views, making it a great base for exploring Yellowstone. Campers appreciated the helpful staff, wildlife encounters, and easy access to nearby trails. While some restrooms were closed during certain seasons and check-in could be slightly confusing, the overall atmosphere remained peaceful and enjoyable for visitors.

Nice location. This is not remote and is offset of a local neighborhood. Worked great for our use quick stay over near the park.

The campground and park were super crowded even though it was mid-September. Most of the urinals and about 1/3 of the toilets in the campground were not working. Water spigots were communal and far apart. Some were inside occupied campsites, so I did not feel comfortable using them. There was no RV electricity, running water or sewers. No showers either. Cell service was one bar and only enough to receive texts. Internet service was nonexistent for campers. But National Park Service personal had top-notch internet and VoIP service. Crude and antiquated services were reserved for visitors.
Mammoth Campground is far away from most of the sights, too. It is inconveniently located. Most of the sights were jammed full. Parking often overflowed onto the road and created a hazardous situation for drivers and pedestrians. Traffic was heavy and jams were frequent. Many drivers were subsequently in a rush and drove too fast on open stretches of the antiquated two lane highways. Unsafe passing and refusing to stop for pedestrians was common. My average vehicle speed was 15 miles per hour (24.14 kilometers per hour). Gas and almost everything else was grossly overpriced. Gardner was only slightly better. $6.69 for a gallon of milk that cost $2.49 at Walmart. I tried hiking in the backcountry. The trails were well-worn and crowded when they were even open. Many are still closed after the flooding 3 years ago. Overall, not a pleasant experience.

I have been coming to the park for 30 years and never camped in Mammoth CG... Now that the road to Gardiner doesn't go past it, it's pretty quiet. I like how the tent sites have gravel because it rained hard my last night and there was no mud under my tent. I would recommend Mammoth CG to anyone that wants to camp in Yellowstone.
