What Guests Are Saying
Mammoth Campground offers a beautiful natural setting with clean facilities and stunning views, making it a great base for exploring Yellowstone. Campers appreciated the helpful staff, wildlife encounters, and easy access to nearby trails. While some restrooms were closed during certain seasons and check-in could be slightly confusing, the overall atmosphere remained peaceful and enjoyable for visitors.

Beautifully maintained, quiet campground. Perfect place for elk watching in the fall and close to lots of great hikes in the Northern Range.

The hosts are fantastic. The sites are big enough and not too close to each other. We needed the sun for our solar panel so I don't complain but I noticed that it's not a lot shaded. You can walk to the main Mammoth area (visitor center, stores, restaurants). But the campground is in the middle of a very busy road switchback and it's noisy.

Camp site was good but the best part was the Elk through the camp site every day and view was great from our site.

Wish there were showers.
On a map, the campground looks close to the visitors center/hotel/store, but it actually is up a very steep trail so you'll likely drive.
Location can be windy. Stake you tent well. Lots of Elk. Restrooms are quite nice for a National Park campground.

We really appreciated the flush toilets and sinks in the very clean bathrooms. Sites were great - we had 3 different - 37, 23, and 14. Even had a bull elk walk right into our site one morning for close up photos (from our vehicles, of course)! Staff (both paid and volunteer) very super helpful and friendly, even suggesting great fishing holes. Firewood sales every evening right in the park was an added bonus. Super close to Mammoth and not far from Gardiner.

Such a beautiful campground! The check in process was quick and the views are gorgeous. We would definitely camp here again.

Quiet, well connected and gives you great access to Lamar Valley. It was also very clean, had the best rest rooms I have seen in a campground and the best established recycling system I have seen in USA. The only negative part is that the campground is located right between 2 roads, and very close to both of them. So it does not feel too much like nature.
