A wonderful camping experience. The RV sites are a bit away from the lake so it's handy to have a bicycle to get around. The store has really everything you need if you forgot something or run out of marshmallows or have an unexpected craving. Very close to the Black River for fly fishing enthusiasts. The surrounding area is simply stunning - when we were there in August we could convince ourselves we were in Ireland, it was so green. Sites themselves are very clean, and the hosts are helpful and attentive without being intrusive. For folks not familiar with the area, there's the strong possibility of sudden thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hail at times during Monsoon season (June - September, strongest in July/August) so if you're off wandering around be sure to button up your campsite before you depart. We had daily rainstorms during our visit (which we really enjoyed under our awning because the wind wasn't blowing) and one evening got enough hail to scoop up into snowballs. We had NO cell service (T-Mobile) which really didn't break our hearts, we have a Garmin inReach for emergencies. Our favorite area in Arizona so we go back every summer!

Apache Trout Campground is one of the best campgrounds in AZ. Clean, friendly Great for hiking. The camp Hosts are the best.
BUT. The road around the campgrounds has very large Pot holes, a lot of them
I can tell you a seen a ATV hit one of the pot holes and never come out and they are still looking for the ATV.

Our favorite campground. The hosts are the best. Our last trip was great except for all the rain, which is no one’s fault. It’s just something that you have to expect when you go glamping.

Close to the lake, great services. One of the best camp sites in Az. Only 39/40 are the only ones without gravel and are super muddy! Besides that. Amazing campsite

Fantastic place, Spacious Spots, clean restrooms & Hosts were very friendly. If you want to be off grid this is the place, internet is basically non-existent, it would be nicer if there was internet service. Lots of forest Service roads to explore.

Nice campground and campsite. Camp hosts were friendly. Lake was beautiful, but too much rain to really enjoy. But , that’s what you should expect during monsoon season. The only negative would be the bathrooms and showers. Not clean, needs paint, hot water was lacking. A lot of bugs.

From Pinetop, Arizona, take Highway 260 east 25 miles to Highway 273 south. Follow Highway 273 south 19 miles to Forest Road 8115 (Big Lake Entrance). Turn right and travel 3 miles.
