I chose site 044 as there a service drive directly across from the rv spot. The workers had a truck an trailer parked not allowing me to perform that task. I was able to access my space with much maneuvering.
I would also suggest when the camp is full to place a sign at the road entrance of the campground alerting travelers there are no accommodations. The only sign was a 8x10 near the first host camper at that point you had to drive you vehicle thru the entire campground as there is no turnaround.

Great campsite, close to town but still secluded. Great place to stay if you want to be on the off-roading trail system.

We like being close to town, yet there is no hint of noise. Spaces are large, plenty of shade, and hosts keep bathrooms clean & stocked. Also, friendly host offered ideas for things to do in the evening in town. We always stay at Old Shady Rest!,,

Well kept grounds, clean bathrooms, central location. The only downside is the noise from the traffic on the street.

This campground is right in the middle of town and it's very convenient to the visitor center where you can pick up backcountry permits. There are lots of trees and pretty well shaded and convenient to anything in Mammoth. We arrived late and left early, so we didn't spend too much time here.

We stayed here one night after dropping a car off at Whitney Portal and taking a bus from Lone Pine. We were heading to Yosemite to start our hike of the John Muir Trail. The campground is easy walking distance to the bus stop so we could easily catch the early bus to Yosemite in the morning.

Our campsite at the old shady rest was great. Much larger than most and in the forrest. We found that commuting in the town was easy and fast. Additionally, the bike trails will take you everywhere. A great place to vacation. We will be back...

Hosts are always friendly and reasonable, and the grounds are perfectly up kept. Just the right distance away from town to be quiet and peaceful and yet close to stores.

Reserved Sites will be held until checkout time (NOON) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of the second day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests. Please call the office at 760-934-5795 if you need to inform the campground of an arrival time greater than 24 hours after your arrival date, or if you will not use your reservation whatsoever. |

Please Note: One RV with tow per single site or one vehicle per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. In accordance with standard industry practices, Inyo Recreation will assess an additional $10.00 extra vehicle fee per day for the second vehicle in each single family campsite, and on the third and fourth vehicle in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered one vehicle, and the third and fourth motorcycle are also considered one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles. |
