The site was beautiful, with plenty of space between camping areas, and walking trails around the campground. The creek running near our site was an added feature, and the campground is very easy to find from Hwy 49.
The only downside was being woken up by chain saws at 7am, cutting logs nearby.
Otherwise, I would recommend the campground for the relatively spacious sites and convenient location, near many gorgeous lakes and hiking trails.

#5 is my favorite camping spot! Lots of room, 20 steps from the creek and running water near by. Sardine lake and Sandpond just 15 minutes away. Great hiking trails. Overall Wonderful campground ! A huge shout out to the Sierra County Sheriffs department that came to our campsite to deliver a message that there was a fire in our town and to call home. No cell service! So … do make sure you let someone at home know where you are at!!

Wild Plum has been an annual destination of ours for over 12 years. On our 2022 trip though, we experienced a group of 75 people who took over the campground uncontrolled until 3am, garbage overflowing everywhere - and evening visits by bears to pick through said garbage, and locks not functioning on any of the bathroom doors. This campground is being seriously, seriously neglected by the Forest Service, as are others in the area, and it's very difficult and sad to see. One camper was even waving a blowtorch up toward the trees. Normally I would rave about this campground, but no more. I hope the USDA and Forest Service get it together before it's completely destroyed.

My family has been coming to Wild Plum for 30+ years. The campground setting is glorious.
Having experienced last year’s lack of a campground host, we packed a broom & T. P. just in case. I’m happy to report the bathrooms were cleaner this year. However, the host went missing for a little more than 2 days during our stay. With no alternative available, this definitely caused issues. The reservation signage was not updated, “no shows” were left as reserved & the campsites were not updated to open the sites, resulting in lots of confusion. The few remaining walk in sites were not well
marked. Unfortunately friends were required to move to a different site. Not an insurmountable job but the camp host could have handled it better. I know he reduced two women to tears and it was only due to her brother’s intervention they were given an alternative site for the night.
A bigger issue is campfires. No action was taken regarding the size of campfires during a time of extreme drought and dryness. Some of the campfires were enormous.

The campsite itself is beautiful. We had reserved 12 campsites for a family reunion. We had about 70 people total. When you have that many people together we can naturally be a little noisy but Pete the site manager may need additional training in how to properly deal with customers. He seems to be suffering from a bipolar disorder. He would come say hi to us and chat then come back and yell at us in a degrading manner. At one point tried to fight a member of our family. We would like to go back one day hopefully issues like this wouldn’t arise anymore.

In accordance with standard industry practices, we will be assessing a $5 additional vehicle fee on the 'second vehicle' in each single family campsite, and on the 'third and fourth vehicle' in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles. |
