The bathrooms were horrible… the forestry came 2 times in a 5day period.. it appears that they’ve not been dumped in A couple of years. We had to clean them our selfs ..we had a group of 20 + people. The smell was awful. Stitch all over the campground . Come on …we pay good money …take care of your stuff. We went to dump in logenville. Pay 10.00 ( which we are not opposed to at all.) But ..no water to clean out .. and it states you must Hose down…ok…the water sources are not working… California … bad … take care of our parks. Go to Oregon and Washington.. beautiful… and taken care of.. California.. take note. Tired of paying good money in California parks …

Love this campground! This was our first time camping at Wildplum and if we knew about it before, we would've come prepared! First of all, the campground is next to a creek with a bunch of swimming holes. Perfect for the kids! Although our campsite is not next to the creek, it only takes us 5 mins to walk down to one of the swimming holes by the entrance. The campsites are pretty spacious and surrounded with a lot of pine trees. Plenty of shades and absolutely beautiful! In addition, there is a secret waterfall and beautiful swimming hole 3 mins drive from the campground. The water is cold but it's so refreshing swimming there to cool off from the summer heat. The only con is that the toilets are vault toilets, very few water spigot around the campsite and no shower. So if you are a shower person like me, be prepared to bring your own portable shower and toilet. On a good note, the host cleans the restroom daily. Will definitely camp here again!

This is a good, clean scenic and shady campground on a pretty little creek. I camped her because of the great fishing in the area. My only criticism is the Restrooms need more frequent maintenance and cleaning. They were quite disgusting and foul odors were noticed even when at campsite. I even took to relieving myself far outside the campground on hikes it was so bad. Please fix this gross problem and all is well.

we have been going to Wild Plum annually for more than 35 years. And will continue this tradition. I am aware the 2021 camp host was unable to complete his/her summer duties due to a medical emergency. Unfortunately the Forest Service had to step in to fulfil some of the host's duties. They clearly are understaffed at best and were not able to provide a even a semi-clean environment. Why the Forest Service didn't contact with someone local to fill in is beyond my comprehension. Sierra City has several establishments that somehow keep their cabins, motels & restaurants clean. The bathrooms were filthy and lacking basic supplies - days with no toilet paper, filthy floors, gross fly paper that had not been replaced. When I asked Forest Service staff to hose out or sweep I was told they didn't have a broom or a hose. Perhaps management should have made sure staff had basic cleaning supplies.
So - if you're going to Wild Plum in 2021: with the exception of the pit toilets, it's a fabulous campground, Haypress Creek is wonderful for wading & fishing, lots of incredible hiking in the area. Just bring an extra roll of TP & maybe a broom.

Go to the visitor center in town for info. Follow the guidelines for fire safety and restroom use. Be respectful of nature and other campers. Try Wild Plum Loop Trail. Kentucky Mine. Swim at Sand Pond. Get ice cream at Bassets. Take the trail up to the Buttes.

The only downside was we had to switch campsites twice in 4 nights but that was our fault for waiting so long to reserve sites. All three sites were great. The campsite is clean, the sites are well maintained and this campsite is conveniently close to Sierra City for any needs and great burgers. It’s also really close to our favorite swimming hole.
All that to say, you should never book to stay here, you should go to Tahoe instead. 😊
I’m all seriousness, this is my favorite place in the world and if you want to camp vs staying in a lodge, Wild Plum is a great choice.
