What Guests Are Saying
Dinkey Creek offers a beautiful natural setting with excellent hiking opportunities and friendly camp hosts who provide helpful service. The campground is well-maintained, and many visitors appreciate the spacious campsites and clean facilities. However, issues such as the lack of functioning flush toilets and potable water have caused some inconveniences, alongside noise from generators and nearby campers. Overall, many families enjoy returning to this campground for its charm and the memorable experiences it provides.

We stayed at site 15 in the B loop. Many trees are gone so around 1-5 pm you will have full sun on the area. There are shaded areas, just not in the parking area.
No WiFi, water is not potable so make sure to prepare.
The camp managers are excellent at keeping up bathrooms.
The area is wonderful with the rock slides and pools nearby. We enjoyed also having McKinley grove is also a wonderful nearby attraction for big redwoods.
I just forgot how loud neighbors can be when trying to go to sleep and then in the morning.
Overall it was a great experience getting outdoors. Get ready for the dirt to get everywhere!

Large sites, clean bathrooms, lots of firewood lying around, some decent swimming holes nearby. Worked fine as a place to stay for a night before backpacking.

Clean campground. Excellent camp hosts. Friendly greeting from campground employee. The campground was very full, but everyone was respectful. Can’t wait to return.

Campsites are spacious and facilities were well maintained. Just a short ride/drive and you are at the creek where you can play amongst the neat rock formations. A nice spot to enjoy the mountains. Shaver lake is also near by and offers some great horse back riding.

Great experience at Dinkey Creek! will definitely return again. Clean sites, not very spacious in regards to being next to other campers but overall a pleasant experience. I enjoyed being able to easily walk to the creek and swim with my family. Beautiful scenary and great trails within the area.

Huge, beautiful campgrounds (huge!) and they aren’t far from the water at all. A decent sized rocky creek runs along the backside of the campground and the main creek follows it all the way down. Other than the yellow jackets that swarm the moment you start cooking, I absolutely loved it!

Big sites, clean bathrooms, fun creek to explore, close to Shaver lake. Unfortunately the G loop has had most of its trees die off, so there is very little shade - that was the only disappointment about this campground. The highlight for our family was exploring Shaver lake which is about a 20 minute drive. There is a dirt road (Fishing Club Road) that goes around the south side of the lake. We stopped at several places on the road and hiked down to secluded beaches with great swimming spots and rocks to jump off of.

The campground was not our favorite but the creek was magical. We are tent campers and had site 43. The campground feel is definitely more "RV" meaning very loud generators in the early morning and late at night, bright lights all around, loud music all day and into the night. A lot of the trees have been felled due to a pest so the campsite was very hot. The bright spot about Dinkey Creek is the creek. We spent 4-6 hours a day there. We brought wetsuits and inner tubes and shot a few mild "rapids." The creek rarely gets deep. I highly recommend closed toed water shoes. My kids's shoes and wetsuits had holes worn in them by the end of the trip--the rides downstream are shallow enough to snag toes and knees if your kids are big enough (mine are 5, 8 and 9.) It was a small price to pay to be able to spend hours in the creek. Sometimes other kids would pass by and try to shoot a rapid like my kids and often they would emerge in tears because of scraped knees or toes. I recommend staying downstream (lower numbered campsites) if your kids are little and you want to try to explore the creek like this. The rapids up at the very top of the campground (near sites 127) are too rough and have steep drop offs. Good luck! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
