About Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins (CA)

Situated near the northwest entrance to the park, the rustic Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins offer convenience and comfort in the scenic setting of Lassen Volcanic National Park. These 20 cabins are the first new accommodations in Lassen Volcanic National Park since 1972, and are available in three models: 2 Room, 1 Room, and Bunkhouse. They are within walking distance of Manzanita Lake, a popular catch & release fishing and family destination, and offer a view of 10,457-foot Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park. The cabins are located one mile south of the park entrance, perched at an elevation of 5,890 feet and adjacent to a 179-site campground. The Loomis Museum, Loomis Ranger Station and popular hiking trails are nearby. Educational programs are presented at the museum and amphitheater within the campground.    Groceries, supplies, gifts, gasoline, laundromat and hot showers are located at the nearby Manzanita Lake Camper Store. Our cafe features a variety of delicious and healthy items including salads, fresh fruits, hot or cold sandwiches, espresso drinks and soft-serve ice cream. Kayak and paddle board rentals are also available on a first come, first serve basis at the Camper Store.  A map of our cabins can be viewed under additional information or on our website, www.lassenlodging.com.  Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ManzanitaLake.

The staff at the camper store were amazing! They are so helpful and friendly.
I find the cabins and out houses in great condition. The cabin floor was very dusty but I guess that’s hard to avoid.
Overall we have a lovely stay.
Thank you for maintaining the park!

Beautiful place, nice and cosy little cabins, spaced apart so that you have enough privacy. There is a cute shop where you can get your morning coffee and anything else you might have forgotten to bring, nice gifts, picnic tables around; clean bathrooms, showers. Plenty of trails to explore, watching the sun rise over Manzanita Lake is just breathtaking. Lassen Volcanic Park is a truly amazing place, with so many beautiful places to see! We swam in Lake Helens and Summit Lake, hiked a few trails, enjoyed icecream at Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Centre with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains... We hope to be back to explore some more!

This was our second time staying at the Manzanita cabins. Highly recommend! The cabins are so cozy, clean, and comforting. The area is so quiet and private with easy access to Manzanita Lake. Would love to return this year if I can.

These are very nice , smallish cabins, a little warmer than expected. However, having come from camping the night before up at Summit lake, we were surprised that there were no food trash instructions nor bins ( we ended up using the wastebasket inside the cabin) and that the sanitizer in the nearby bathroom was completely out on both sides. There was a sink attached to the outside of the restroom but we could not figure out how to turn the hose on that would have let water reach it's faucet. The lantern is worse than useless ( I had read this going in so no surprise) and despite trying all the wall and heater controls, we could never get the propane heat to come on. Fortunately it was not a big issue though my roommate was quite disappointed. There were lovely flowers in a vase on the front porch, a request envelop for tips, and tissues under the bed left from previous visitors.

I need to bring an air mattress or something else because even with a sleeping bag the mattress hurt my back.

Admittedly, this was the first time I had ever been to a campground. I discovered there are lots of campfires in a campground! Not the best situation for someone with asthma. Would love to see either a limitation on duration of campfires or on the amount permitted. Firewood is for sale for $14 per bundle, and it is discouraged to bring your own firewood from elsewhere, so as to prevent the spread of pests and diseases.
The cafe seemed to run out of things and not resupply quickly. Don't count on the laundromat change machine working. Sometimes the cafe has quarters for the showers and sometimes it doesn't. The showers were not as bad as some reviewers mentioned. Each shower has a small dressing room behind the curtain. Plus, there is a heater in each one. Peak hot water use is from 4 to 7 p.m., but I always found there was hot water for me.
We stayed in the cabins, which are very clean and new-is. Each cabin had a picnic table, bear box, and fire pit. The bed pads seemed adequate at first, but they did compress under our weight after a few minutes. We highly recommend that you bring extra bed padding. My partner also had the foresight to uproot one of our solar garden lights to add to the single LED Lantern they provide, which tended to dim quickly. Headlamps are also a good idea for the walk to the restrooms before bed . We think there might have been two water spigots for the 20 cabins, and the water was good tasting.
Manzanita lake is gorgeous. Easy hours walk around it. Animals are very active at sunrise and sunset of course. Must do in the park is Kings Creek Falls. Worth visiting the visitor center at the Southwest entrance. They have Wi-Fi, snacks and coffee there. Great drive on Highway 89 as well. You'll go by bubbling mud pots and thermal vents.
