Peltier Bridge Primitive Campground offers a beautiful setting near Clear Creek, with several sites providing easy access to hiking and swimming opportunities. Most sites are well-maintained and provide a peaceful, private camping experience, although some have issues with trash and restroom cleanliness. Lovely secluded spot away from everything, but still not too far from visitor center and supply store just in case

This is a great campground in the Whiskeytown NRA. It is a primitive campground and not on Whiskeytown Lake but further away from the lake, up in the hills. It has pit toilets as well as garbage service and bear lockers and is right by the (Peltier?) creek. It is scenic. The creek is lovely. The campground provides access to mountain bike trails nearby, which was the primary reason I chose this location. Hiking is also available here as well as sights of historical interest from the California gold rush. The campground is about 11 miles from Redding, CA and had a very remote feel, despite the relative proximity to the city. In my case, Google Maps incorrectly routed me to the wrong location, so I'd advise double checking with a different navigation source.
On the negative side, at least 3 or 4 of the available campsites were closed. Since there are only a few sites to begin with, that meant that only 6 of 9 (I believe) were available. Most sites are probably too small for RVs. Even my full size Ford Econoline camper van was limited to where I could park. The biggest problem with this campground is the need to make reservations sight unseen, meaning you might be unable to fit if not using a tent to camp in. I would therefore recommend calling recreation.gov as opposed to reserving online so you can ask about the size and layout of campsites that might be available.

A very nice location by a flowing stream makes for a good spot to spend the night. The dirt road is narrow but should be passable in any normal passenger vehicle. Close enough to town for convenience but far enough to get some isolation. Amenities were nice and the area was well kept. The spots aren't too close together but if someone is in an adjacent site you'll see them. 9 (at the end) seemed the nicest.

Site 9 is at a dead end which is nice because we got site 8 and no one came by. We were able to get our car up onto the camp area. Bear lockers worked great, there’s two. There’s actual trash bins but we packed ours out .
Watch out for spiders! Vault toilets were open but inspect the toilet/toilet seat and toilet paper/roll VERY GOOD. Or use your own. There we’re two spiders on the roll .
But besides that no wildlife other than mostly birds and one little mouse by the toilets. Site 8 was about a minute walk from the toilets.
Definitely going again
