Road to Peltier Bridge is the start of the adventure! It was a little rough: be especially careful where road transitions on/off the bridge on either end. But it is passable for even smaller passenger with reasonable ground clearance.

Don't expect a lot of bells & whistles: it's a pretty primitive campground. Bathrooms were vault toilets. But it's quiet & inspiring, next to a scenic creek with plenty of relaxing flowing water noise to fall asleep to. Sites are well-spaced with plenty of room to set up tents, chairs, etc. The low camping fee was extremely reasonable.

Most sites drive-up, but mine (#1) was a short walk in over a sturdy footbridge. Site had a table, fire grate, and bear-proof storage.

Unfortunately, not a great night's sleep for me, but that was due to rain. Specifically, every wind gust shook mini-torrents down from the overhead trees onto my tent's rainfly, waking me up repeatedly. Not the fault of the campground, though; Mother Nature just had it in for me that night!

Great site for anyone looking to get away from the larger concessionaire-operated campground, who doesn't mind a little effort to get there & only basic amenities.

Campsites 🏕️ 8 and 9 are nice and shady at the end of the road (so no foot traffic) with access to the river for water.

Campsite 8 has two food storage boxes different from others.

August 2023: this is not a habitable campground, it's at the charred center of the Carr burn resulting from the 2018 megafire in the area. All vegetation is burned to a crisp and the earth is dead. There's nothing left. Give it another 5 or 10 years and maybe it'll be habitable.

Surprised this campground was full, but everyone was quiet, the nearest neighbors were out most of the day. The road down was one lane and looked very hard to backup or pull over, luckily I did not have to try. I drove through the area North of Redding on my way home it looked greener, I would try that if I come this way again. I did have a reservation for Castle Craig, but decided to drive home instead, having seen everything in Redding that I wanted and having hiked castle Craig long ago.

A group was doing some sort of training there, so I had to park where people would walk down, part way in if I remember. Luckily they moved one of their cars and I was able to park permanently near my site. Still a carry for all the stuff I had, wanted to remove most while I was in Redding.
Bear Box had a good design, in that you had to use a "key" to open. But it was noisy fitting it in, and another step in opening and closing to and from car (and opening and closing it.

Turtle bay in Redding was a bit over rated by AAA (gem?).
