Beautiful campground. We stayed before Big Oak Flat road opened for the season and it was full, but didn't feel crowded. Hiked to Hetch Hetchy waterfalls, which was beautiful and good for kids.

My brother had never visited Yosemite National Park before, except for a drive through of the Yosemite Valley in 1978! I am a volunteer at the Yosemite Conservation Heritage Center in Yosemite Valley, and I wanted to show him the great places that I have visited during my 13 years of service. The campground was ok, except that there were six sites closely squeezed together (so it would be good to be friendly with your neighbors). We enjoyed the trail from the Group Campground area down to the Hodgdon Meadow (which is a beautiful area just east of the camp). We visited Hetch Hetchy, the Valley including Happy Isles, Yosemite Falls, and Mirror Lake. We stopped at the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias on the way back to Oakhurst. An epic adventure! The highway (Rt. 120) from our camp to the Valley was closed for repairs, making it a lot longer trip to the Valley. Even so, we enjoyed the journey through Mariposa and Coulterville taking Hwy. 49 to the west and north.

Nice campground located near the north entrance to Yosemite. The ground at some camp sites is a little uneven so finding the best place for your tent could be a challenge. Unfortunately Big Oak Flat Road was closed due to damage which required at 2 hour detour to reach Yosemite Valley for what should have been at 30 minute drive.

- Expensive (36$) compared to NPs in Arizona/Utah such as Grand Canyon, Bryce or Zion (around 20$), and for less comfort
- Very far from Yosemite Valley (45min by car) and when we went there, the road was closed and we had to make a big detour of 2h45 to get there (via Mariposa)
- Sloping ground and car parked on top, no dedicated car parking per site
- Restrooms are quite far and dirty
- No wifi, and signal is very low there

There was a bear that visited our site and we had to scare away and the next day we talked to the ranger and they said this exact site is where the bears like to go. FYI

This was one of those great state campgrounds that was right in the thick of where you want to be from an immersed in nature perspective. Huge pines and cedars all around and a beautiful meadow close to the group campsites (short trail walk away). As far as proximity to Yosemite, it isn’t in the valley but it is at the west entrance and about 40 minutes from the valley floor. However, it has good access to Hetch Hetchy which was about 40 minutes slow drive northwest which was really incredible. We had our RV (30 ft trailer) and there was plenty of space. Site was very level though so had to use all my leveling blocks.

Almost NONE of all sites' enable you to level your RV enough to sleep without a struggling to lift two or even 3 wheels by up to 6 inches or more! This campground was too old or NOT well designed for RV camping. The only Pro is the nearby location to the Valley and maybe the pretty meadow for short walk. We booked 2 nights but only used only 1st one because we found a much better "Diamond-O" campground for our 2nd nights (paid extra) when we passed by after Hetch Hetch visit, which is only 5-6 miles from Hodgedon. I would highly recommend Diamond-O for all Yosemite RV campers no matter you are planning to visit Hetch Hetch or NOT. It was a very new facility with perfect leveled parking and tent pad, which will make your camping experience much more enjoyable!

Great site, easy to find, very clean and secure. Lots of deadfall for fires with nice fire pits with movable grill tops provided. Each site has easy to use bear box, fire pit and large picnic table. We had plenty of room for a 6 and 3 person tent. Plenty of bear safe trash areas and hard stand bathrooms with potable water access. Several trails you can walk to from your campsite as well.
