Hodgdon Meadow Campground

I didn’t think it would be possible to get a campsite in Yosemite for 4th of July weekend a mere 10 days in advance but I lucked out! This campground is a bit removed from Yosemite Valley which I actually liked because it was quiet and mostly tent camping. I had a walk-in site which wasn’t as far from the parking area as I envisioned and was adjacent to the edge of the campground so it felt pretty wild. Sites were well maintained and I had a nice flat spot for my tent. The restrooms are super basic and the potable water spigot is located above the grey water disposal basin. There is not a space to do your dishes, so bring a pail to catch your wash water to carry to the grey water basin. It would be helpful to have the trail to the restroom a bit more obvious because I felt like I might have been going through someone’s campsite. The campground is dog-friendly and I met some cool dogs, so added bonus. The campground is also close to one of the park entrances, a visitor center and a couple of sequoia groves. If you’re checking in late (>5:00p) there’s a sign-in sheet and you need your reservation number. The drive to the valley is ~35min, and on the days and at the times I went, I had no problem getting in and finding parking. The hike from Camp 4 up Yosemite Falls to Eagle Peak to El Capitan was wonderful (bring poles), as was Mist Trail to Vernal and Nevada Falls. Glacier Point is a must see! On the Sentinel Dome trail, I encountered a mama bear and two cubs, so bring your awareness and bear bell even on busy trails. All in all, I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely camp at this campground again!

You park like 30 ft from your campsite and if you’ve got a cooler on wheels or not too much stuff or staying multiple nights it’s super worth it because you only have 2 neighbors Vs the other campsites are on top of each other! We loved it! 40 min away from the valley but we still liked it!

Great campground! Friendly staff and great location. Not a lot of space between sites on the inner loop, be prepared to know everything about your neighbors.

Far enough from the valley for some peace and quiet but close enough to everything. Wonderful campground hosts.

Great campsite, pretty spacious and they offer fire woods！

We stayed at Campsite 45, and overall it was a great spot. It was close to the bathrooms, quiet, and had plenty of room for us to set up three tents. The only downside was that the campsite has a slight slope, so all three tents ended up a bit slanted. Other than that, we had a great experience and would stay here again.

The campground was beautiful, quiet, and clean. We were in group site D and it had plenty of space for all 7 tents (20 people) for 3 nights of camping. So many close hikes and a beautiful drive into the valley.

I think we had one of the best sites for a small trailer, 092. The tents really seemed to be packed in, being small with no privacy between sites. This campground is a place to sleep, but you will want to get up and into the rest of the park for the day.
