About Thirty Mile

Thirty Mile Campground is nestled on the banks of the Rio Grande River, just a short mile from the Rio Grande Reservoir. The location is perfect for anyone who loves to spend time fishing, canoeing and swimming. In addition, there are two trailheads and regular interpretive programs located at the campground. Across from the Thirty Mile is the Weminuche Wilderness, the largest wilderness area in Colorado. It's a famously rugged region with three mountain peaks reaching over 14,000 feet.

What Guests Are Saying

Thirty Mile Campground offers a beautiful setting with spacious, well-maintained sites and friendly, attentive hosts. Guests appreciate the clean restrooms, privacy among campsites, and access to fishing and hiking opportunities. However, the road leading to the campground is rough, and some visitors experienced noise issues from nearby campers.

The campsites are very nice and spacious. Lots of trees if you want and very little if you don't. Two National Forest hiking trails begin in the campground. The camp host is very anti-dog. We were on our own campsite playing with our dog and she came to yell at us for not having the dog on a leash. Just about everyone in the campground had dogs. None of them were bothering anyone and everyone that we talked with (and we also had friends in 7 other sites, with dogs) said she came and yelled at them about dogs off-leash - ON THEIR OWN SITES. We all understand the anti-dog sentiment which seems rampant these days (which is very unfortunate) but this was over the top.

Always enjoyable to camp at Thirty Mile. 55 years of camping trips there this year. Great campsites spread apart from other campsites make for good privacy. Adequate water spigots throughout the campground with good tasting water. No electricity or black water dump station make efficiency a constant need. There are 4 trails I usually always hike that originate at or near the campground; Weminuche trail to Weminuche Pass and beyond, Little Squaw Creek (although I think it is now Grizzly Creek due to PC), Box Canyon whose trailhead is in the River Hill Campground a mile away, and Ute Creek trail whose trailhead is at the west end of the Rio Grande Reservoir. The weather was great, campground and bathrooms clean and stocked, low bugs, good skies for solar panel use, and spectacular clear skies at night to stargaze. I’ll keep coming back as long as I am able.

Nice campground with secluded campsites and lots of trees. Our site was right along the river, which we really enjoyed, and otherwise quiet. There were a couple of ATVs riders that liked roaming the around and around the camp, but it's large enough that they weren't too bothersome. Camp hosts Sierra and Dakota do a great job of keep such a large area clean and groomed - including the bathrooms. We enjoyed our short stay there. Great for fishing!

We were very pleased with the campground hosts. Even though they had to take care of four campgrounds in the area, the bathrooms were clean, the campsites were all cleaned and raked, and the hosts stopped by several times to make sure we were happy with the campground. I can not imagine a more pleasant experience from the people taking care of the campground. Top notch!
