What Guests Are Saying

Big Meadows Reservoir Campground offers a stunning natural setting with well-maintained, spacious sites and clean facilities, including immaculate pit toilets. Visitors appreciate the variety of recreational activities, such as fishing, kayaking, and hiking, as well as the friendly camp hosts. While some guests noted issues with noise from generators and accessibility for larger campers, the overall experience remains positive, with many returning year after year.

Great quiet, clean, campground. Excellent location with plenty of fishing and hiking locations nearby. Restrooms are serviced daily and the camp hosts are friendly. Each camp site has a picnic table and a fire ring. During our most recent stay (in August, 2021), we saw deer, pikas, marmots, weasels, bald eagles, ospreys, and more! Our group is already planning next year's trip because this is a terrific place to get away and relax.

Current host seems eager to get out of this job and go home. Bathrooms are so so clean, flies are bad.

Been going to Big Meadow CG for 30 years, always special to return. Hosts and campers friendly and keep a quiet camp. Cleanest vaults we encountered at any NFS CG. Beautiful surroundings.

Cleanest bathrooms of the season - however we were there in early summer. Site 41 feels wide open, not too close to neighbors. The First Come First Serve site across the road was occupied by travelers from Texas that explained to us that they always look for the FCFS so they can stay the entire max visit without moving camp sites. Sweet folks! There is a view of the lake if you walk to the edge of your site. The trees are growing back, however they are very small now so if you need shade - bring some. Great solar charging after the sun crests the hill behind your camp.

The campground was beautiful and well maintained. Big Meadows by far is one of our favorite campgrounds.
Look forward to our next visit.

Nice clean campground. Spurs are well spaced. It does get cold at night. We were there in August and temps got down to upper 30's.

The campground is beautiful and very well maintained. Easy access to the beautiful lake, quiet and peaceful. The only thing I would want others to know is that there are a lot of dead trees. Luckily, new growth is happening, but it is sad to see. There weren't really any bugs to speak of, but the birds were going nuts, so I'm guessing we have them to thank for that! All in all a lovely place to be.

We chose the Big Meadow site for a family reunion which was attended by all of our children. Near by attractions (South Fork [fuel, food], Creede [art and sporting shops, mining area and museum {should see}], Pagosa Springs [art and sporting shops, antiques and tubing] and scenic drives allowed diversity for each family.
The fishing and catching was excellent with near limits each day in the reservoir and stream.
Camping in latter July resulted in rain in the afternoons and evenings with two days resulting in 1+ inch rainfalls. However, the woods were green and there were no fire restrictions.
The camping area is spread out and the other campers were friendly
We will return as we do each year.
