The campground offers a beautiful view of the mountains, trees, and awesome lake. This campground rates near the top on spectacular views. We will be back.

Colorado Resident who drives 5 hours to camp at this location. This is one of our favorite places. In addition to the beautiful setting on the east side of Wolf Creek Pass, you have an easy hiking trail (kid friendly) around the lake and if you are really adventurous, you can head up the canyon on one of the trails (hazards).
The camp hosts have been friendly and attentive each of our visits over the last 4 years.
Fishing: The fishing is outstanding. You have a lake with a dam for bait or fly fishing. There are creeks coming in and out of the reservoir allowing for some good, but narrow and woody, fly fishing (short rod). Boats are allowed (No Wake). You aren't going to catch the state record, but if you can't catch a fish in this lake, you should take up another hobby. Rainbows and Brookies.
Campground: Many wonderful sites. Somewhere around 50/50 between reservations needed (and yes, you need to get on it 6 months out) and sites that are First Come, First Served. In fact, I am of the opinion that all Lower Level sites should be reservation only. The sites on the outside of the ring are spacious and offer nice views. The Middle and Upper levels have some amazing views as well, but you have to know which ones (like FF #19 is great).
Outhouse: This is your standard style outhouse, EXCEPT these are the best kept and maintained outhouses I have ever been in.
Water: There are no water hook-ups, but there is fresh water available in the campgrounds.
Electric: No hook-ups, but generators are allowed. During my two trips this summer, people were respectful of the time and noise issues of a generator.
Weather: Ever afternoon you should expect a rain shower (sometimes with lightning and thunder) to come through. Mornings and nights are usually crisp and clear.
Wi-Fi signal: I have Verizon. I was able to get e-mail and text messages, but could not get an internet connection. E-mails and text messages would not send with photo attachments.

The campground managers, Billy and Rhonda were awesome. They were friendly and full of local info. The toilets were always spotless and toilet paper was never empty. Others commented they are the cleanest bathrooms of any park they visited.

Campground is very nice. Kayaking on the reservoir was great. Wild flowers 7/10/22 were in great bloom. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the water system that required shocking, but we had brought adequate water with us. These things happen.

My wife and I really enjoy camping here, which we've done twice now in our 20' travel trailer. (Although we've been vacationing in this area for over two decades, previously renting cabins in the nearby town of South Fork.) Most of the sites are spaced out nicely, although a few would be tough to back a rig into because of how they are situated. I highly recommend checking the youtube channel "Campground Recon" to see a driving tour of the site before you book. This has helped us pick good sites for our rig. Some sites are very shady, while others have no shade at all. Again, depending on your preference and if you are using solar panels, this is good to research ahead of time. The host does a good job of keeping things clean and overall it's a very good campground. The fishing at Big Meadows reservoir for trout is excellent, especially if you are fly fishing. There are a lot of other great lakes and streams nearby to explore as well. There are plenty of deer around too. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is for two reasons...(1) there are a lot of dead trees from bark beetle in the area, which has very much reduced the beauty of the landscape. A few years ago it was lush green in every direction. There are still green trees, such as aspens, but a lot of dead spruce/pine. (2) This year the water spigots were not working. Last year there was plenty of fresh water from the spouts around camp, but this year I couldn't get more than about a gallon on a slow trickle from only one pump in the site. I'm not sure why it wasn't working this year, but it forced us to go to another campground for water, which required hand pumping and boy my shoulders felt it the next day. Overall though, it's a very nice campground, clean, well managed, and in a beautiful area that I've considered my little fisherman's paradise for many years. A great place to make memories with family. I just recommend bringing extra water until they get the spigots working again.
