What Guests Are Saying
Baby Doe campground is praised for its beautiful setting, cleanliness, and well-maintained facilities, making it a favorite for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors enjoy activities like fishing, hiking, and exploring nearby towns, with many expressing a desire to return. However, some concerns were noted about the close proximity of campsites and the lack of water supply, which has declined in recent years.

The lake itself is gorgeous and had it not rained, we would have spent much more time there. Sandy beach area with rocks. Bring your sunscreen!
This campground is best suited for campers that have no children or pets, people who will spend zero time at their campsite or folks who are in their tent/camper by 9:30 pm. Also, travel trailers longer than 26 feet will have a hard time maneuvering into most spots.
**This campground has zero tolerance for children**
Our site was clearly not cleaned up after the last campers departed. The remnants of their half burnt logs and ash soup was still in our fire pit. The wrong name was written on our site which left me quite anxious until we could confirm with the camp host that our spot was not given away to someone else.
Sara and Roy, the camp hosts, are rule vigilantes. Some of the ridiculous things we were talked to about:
- Our awning lights need to be turned off. They might be bothering people. (Even though the only people around us were our friends campsites)
- Your dogs canβt be leashed to a tree. They canβt be left alone in the camper or outside, even if youβre running to the restroom.
- We should go into the woods to play games such as Cornhole so we donβt bother other campers. (Meanwhile a neighboring campsite was throwing knives and axes at a log on their site and were never told to go elsewhere)
- They WILL yell at your children. Sara screamed at a little girl for going too fast on her bike. Absurd.
- Quiet hours between 10pm - 8am mean: No more than 8 people around the fire, even if youβre quiet. You cannot ride your bike from one campsite to another because your headlamp might bother someone. No music, even if it canβt be heard outside your campsite. No laughing. (We seriously got yelled at for laughing when they told us there were 6 minutes and 33 seconds left until quiet time).
So if you want to camp with friends, DO NOT CAMP HERE! They are NOT group friendly! NOT kid friendly! NOT pet friendly!

Absolutely beautiful location. Turquoise Lake sits between large mountain peaks which were snow capped in early June. Wind was prevelent every day from 11:00-5:00; not too bad to enjoy the day but challenged our canoeing and fishing during that time period. If available reserve the lower numbered sites (1-27) but the higher numbered loop is fine except for our site #32. The site was recently remodelled facing the wrong direction to back into and with an elevated and very narrow footprint no wider than a single car driveway. The elevated site, built like a levy, creates a dangerous drop off of 4' on each side. When I lowered my stairs I was 18" from the edge - VERY DANGEROUS! Bike/hike trail along the lake towards the dam is easy and enjoyable however the other direction toward May Queen campground is more challenging. We rode our bikes, much to our regret, 5 miles through the most challenging course you can imagine falling multiple times; much advised to walk that direction unless you are looking for a serious trail bike challenge - it would be a fun adventurous walk along the lake with several creek crossings and waterfalls. Baby Doe is by far the best campsite at the lake.

Campground was very quiet and all facilities were well kept. If you needed anything from a store, Leadville was a short drive away. Lots of hike trails in the area.

Beautiful area - the camp hosts were amazing, nicest people we've ever had as hosts. They were never obtrusive, but were available and so helpful and kind!
