Nice campground, good view of Mount Elbert and the surrounding peaks, and clean bathrooms.

Gorgeous area, easy to reach but very quiet.
We really enjoyed hiking from the dam area to the old hotel, around 4.6 mi round trip. NOT a trail for most bicycles and we were glad we did not bring ours.
Pit toilets were spotless and close enough to each site. Most site had space around them and were really nice.
Unfortunately the low water in the lake exposes a lot of sand and the wind swept huge clouds of dust through the area all day the first day, grit in the teeth bad. But once the wind calmed to less than 15 mph it happened only infrequently with big gusts.
We drove up to Leadville for a quick visit, fun town and loads of information on the area at the visitors center.
The camp store down the road was well stocked and very nice also.

Great camp hosts! Clean, stocked bathrooms. Regular check ins and an adorable pup, Lefty. There were issues with our camp neighbors setting up a large group kitchen/campfire/kid zone and hang out in a very close camp 15 ft from our kitchen. They had 5 camps to choose from and were extremely inconsiderate. The hosts generously offered other sites, we moved, and the rest of our stay was great.

The campground was quiet and immaculate (including the pit toilets). The wind was bad blowing at 20 mph sustained with 30 and 40 mph gusts from late morning to early eventing which resulted in a lot of dust coming off the dry sections of the lake.
Lake county had level 2 fire restrictions; whereas, White Star was level 1 so fires were allowed. Too many people burning fires under the extremely dry and windy conditions.

Great experience - very impressed with how well kept and spread out the sites were. We will plan to be back again.

Silt blowing from the upper lake made it quite dusty. We had to ask the camp host at least twice to get the window tags so we could use the fee area's around the lake so we wouldn't have to pay the extra fee. Restrooms clean.

Well since they charge full price without water and no dump station is aggravating. Then now they charge a lodging tax on top of the camp fee? That’s ridiculous, I’m parking on dirt with my own equipment and no amenities, why are they charging me for a lodging tax? Love the area, hate the ridiculous prices that the are charging. Hope they can get rid of the ridiculous fees.
