This is a great campground. There is so much history regarding the location as it was where the 10th Mountain Division trained during WWII. Lots of things to do nearby, close to Leadville. Whether you come via Minturn or Leadville, it’s a beautiful drive. If you pick the right time in the fall, you may see spectacular colors as the aspen change color. Some spots don’t have much shade, so be wary at the elevation. Bring plenty of water! The same camp host was there this year as last year when I visited and they do a fantastic job keeping the camp clean and maintaining the facility. The Colorado Trail intersects very near the camp site, and not too far up the trail you can hike to a waterfall. Special thanks to the wonderful camp host!

The weather was perfect. The camp host is very professional. The site #6 is outstanding. Was clean when we arrived. Plenty to see with the history at Camp Hale. Would recommend this site to anyone who loves camping.

Camp Hale has really interesting military history combined with natural beauty unmarred, except by some camp generators and the semi-truck traffic on the highway. But the camp hosts were really, really good about enforcing quiet hours and were friendly and chatty as well. Our Camp Host Traci had set up a spotting scope in the evenings and was watching deer and elk on the mountain to the east of the campground. She let a group of about 5 of us spend an hour or more watching them feed across the alpine meadow a few miles away. Hummingbirds, mountain jays, beautiful vistas and a lovely stream made for great experiences of beautiful Colorado.

Lovely views, each site is fairly private from your neighbors, and the hosts were very welcoming.

Camp Hale is one of our favorite spots. Traci and her partner are great hosts and so helpful and knowledgeable. Campground is small and clean always, even the bathrooms!
