The Pawnee walk-in campgrounds are very good (100-150 ft walk from parking). They are quiet, well-maintained, with a bathroom close by. Each campsite has a flat surface for a tent, a picnic table, bear-resistant cabinet and fire ring. During our stay July 18 there were a few mosquitos. We cooked using the fire ring and the Pawnee host informed us that it was OK to use wood from the surrounding forest. He also had some we could purchase. It is about 1/2 mile walk to Brainard Lake and about 1.3 miles to the Lake Isabelle trailhead. They do not publish that you need a separate parking pass to park at the trailhead so add about 2.5 miles to any hike you plan on doing. Overall this was a great place for camping!

Loved the views and the lake near by. Bathrooms need a tad bit more tending to but not too bad.

This was a lovely site. You could here the sound of the creek, the bathrooms were clean, and although busy it was quiet and the spots were far enough apart. Easy walk to Brainard Lake.

Site host double -booked my site but she tried hardest to solve the issue for both guests and gave us free fire wood.

Great site with shady tent pad which was perfect for additional sun/rain canopy. Mosquitos were intense so don’t forget bug spray.

Campgrounds were beautifully maintained, facilities were very clean, and access to Brainard and the nearby hikes was great. We were there for a holiday weekend and noise levels weren't out of control - which was nice since it was our 9 month old's first time camping. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to return.

Beautiful lake right outside of campground. Trails from camp. Moose sightings. Moose loop Campsites spacious and most wooded. The other camploop is barren with lots of fallen trees but then you get views.
Sadly the Brainard Lake has limited parking and there are always a huge line of cars trying to get in. Many people have to park 3 miles out and walk in on the road making the road dangerous (families and groups trying to walk on the side of a narrow 2 lane road). They need a shuttle from the outlying parking lot for safety and for traffic. I was told they can't do gas buses because the gas stations are too far and electric buses need electricity which they don't have. It seems like they could with solar! Bad management.

Great location for Brainard lake and hikes to Mitchell and Blue lakes. Campsites are large and the campground is not congested. Bathrooms are very clean.
