I had a great experience at Pawnee Campground and visiting Brainard Lake. The campground was well maintained and my campsite was one of the cleanest and most manicured of any campsites, with wooden 4x4s to create the boundary of the campsite and contain the stones that formed the ground of the campsite. Remember, no showers, but there is water and clean pit-toilets close by that do not smell. My campsite was in the section of the campground where the trees had to be cut down because of insect infestation, but I appreciated how clear the management was when I signed up that this would be an issue. My only drawback was that it was really windy at times, so much that I couldn't put up my cabin tent by myself, it wanted to blow over, so I slept in a hammock instead. My canopy might have faired the wind to provide shade, but I did okay without it. The only change I would suggest is to allow campers to park close to the lake without having to pay an additional parking fee, but the exercise was good, and really wasn't too far from the furthest end of the campground.

I tent camped on Elk loop. There was no shade, and that part of the campground was hot and desolate during the day.
Also, I'm used to camp hosts who are available to answer questions and address concerns. The camp management staff (American Land & Leisure) just zoomed past on their golf carts. I stayed only two nights, and I never did get to talk to anyone.

This was a very beautiful and well- maintained campground. Proximity to Brainard Lake and Indian Peaks Wilderness Area is a huge plus.

Even with rain throughout the afternoon and night, it was a great place to be. The clouds over the mountains were so dramatic. Our site was perfect.

We got in right at sunset and were pleasantly surprised by this campground! Big sites but, at least the loop we were in, great privacy! I would love to go back to this campground again.
