What Guests Are Saying
West Chicago Creek campground is a quiet and well-maintained site with clean bathrooms, friendly hosts, and beautiful surroundings, including easy access to hiking trails and a lovely creek. While there is no water on-site, it is conveniently located near Idaho Springs for supplies. Some sites are closer together and may require careful arrangement, but overall, visitors enjoy the peaceful experience and scenic atmosphere.

Awesome campground that isn’t too big and has plenty of hiking nearby. The sound of the creek running at night will put you right to sleep! No service which is good and bad, but the camp host is always around and there to help in any emergency. She is what makes this campground a 10/10, absolutely amazing at hosting and extremely helpful. Definitely recommend staying here

Beautiful location with aspen groves and big pines. There is a healthy creek very close by, a huge plus in my book, and an ideal place to catch brookies for anglers. Great hiking trails. This is a small campground with spacious lots. No frills, but level spots with foliage, sturdy fire pits and bear-proof storage for food. Hammocks seem to be okay with many good trees for hanging. Convenient outhouse-type toilets kept very clean and friendly camp manager.
In short, I loved it and hope to go again.

Excellent campground with an amazing host who went out of her way to make sure things were clean and we had everything we needed to have a good stay. There are many good hikes and climbs in the area such as Hell's Hole right out from the campground and Mount Bierstadt and Silver Dollar lake from the Guanella Pass area. Also Mt. Evans is just down the road but you need a reservation to get in:( It was interesting that even though it wasn't that far from the Interstate and Idaho Springs (great town and showers at the Rec. Center), we saw a greater variety of wildlife than we had seen in some time: Moose, sheep, goats, marmots, picas, ptarmigans, white capped sparrows, hummingbirds and of course...squirrels:) Also we met a lot of amazing people starting with Karen our host:)

The Mt Evan’s area needs a timed ticket if that is a target. Aside from the lack of water, which was VERY clearly outlined, everything in the area is great.
The vault toilets were well maintained and clean. The camp host was friendly and attentive and kept on the noisy campers that were disruptive and disrespectful of others. All told, I really love this place!
