What Guests Are Saying
Pinon Flats Campground is well-regarded for its friendly camp host, Nancy, and beautifully maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground offers a peaceful atmosphere, ample tree cover, and easy access to hiking trails. However, some sites are small and not fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, and issues with noise from other campers have been noted. Overall, it is a memorable camping experience with great amenities.

The instructions for Pinon Flats site #49 indicated that it could accommodate an RV up to 20ft. I have an 18 ft trailer, but there was no way I could get it to fit in the site. I camp at many places throughout the US and I understand the dynamics, but believe me that this site is next to impossible to navigate, particularly when there are tree branches across the campsite that allow no lateral adjustments. Also, the geometry of the roadway to allow you to back in to the site is set up badly. This site is at best a tent site. It is very slanted and not at all level. I was completely disappointed and decided to leave rather than risk damaging my RV with the tree limbs. If I could rate the site a zero I would. There are too many people trying to access too small a space. Pinon Flats isn't camping. I will never try and go there again.

Was hoping for nice early May weather, but we got a snowstorm instead. That's Colorado! This is a beautiful campsite and it doesn't have one of those hateful, tiny, timber-ringed tent pads that plague those of us with bigger tents. However, our Nemo 6 person Aurora was pretty cramped between the fire ring and picnic table (we pushed the table a foot backward to have room). With the snowstorm, we never lit a fire but I am not sure it would have been safe since the tent was so close. Still, we DID fit and it was
beautiful. The bathrooms were nice and there is a walking path down to the dunes. You can buy firewood at the lodge, restaurant and store just outside the park.

Great location….camping spots a little tight even for a small travel trailer. Wonderful park.

It was nice that we were able to move the picnic table otherwise we would have needed to put our tent in an inconvenient location. The space was small but adequate for our four person tent. There were three steps down from the road to the campsite (#83) something I missed if it was evident in the photos of the site. Not a problem for us but something that would be nice to have highlighted. Overall, a very good experience at this campground.
