What Guests Are Saying
Pinon Flats Campground is well-regarded for its friendly camp host, Nancy, and beautifully maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground offers a peaceful atmosphere, ample tree cover, and easy access to hiking trails. However, some sites are small and not fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, and issues with noise from other campers have been noted. Overall, it is a memorable camping experience with great amenities.

The spot was clean and the trees were beautiful be sure to bring levelers. The views of the sand dunes and the mountains are spectacular. We went to the sand dunes visitors center and walked. Great hiking there. We did Zapata Falls in the area. It’s a fantastic place to camp and there’s so much to see in that area.

We stayed there for two nights in early August, in my opinion, this is the best time for camping in the Sand Dunes National Park, temperature was mild and perfect for camping. Our overall experience was amazing. Almost all of the campsites have view of gorgeous sand dunes, we stayed at #45, loop 2 which also has view of dunes. The dunes are only minutes walk from the campsite. There are flush toilet as well which are few minutes walk from most of the campsites. We strongly recommend and plan to stay again.

We really enjoyed Pinon Flats Campground - The restrooms were clean and had Flush toilets. We were on our way north and stayed on our way up as well as on our way back, we had deer come within 20' of our site even with our skittish dog growling at them.
The only down side is we had some neighbors on our first night that did not observe the quiet hours and ran their Generator almost all night which I'm sure most of the campground could hear.... but that wasn't the campgrounds fault. Will definitely stay again in the future.

This is an adorable campground! The bathrooms are easy to access, clean, and have flush toilets. The camp store will drive around to sell firewood at night and coffee in the morning! The grounds were well maintained and people followed the rules for the most part, the generators ran a little outside of camp hours, but it was November and the temps were a little chilly. Overall a great experience and one I would recommend to anyone visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park!

I know to expect extra noise at NPS campgrounds but my stay here was a bit more than normal. Lots of shouting, vehicle noise, etc. after 10pm. This would benefit from on-site staff who will enforce quiet hours rules. I’m also in support of quiet hours starting at 9pm since I wake up early to do things in the outdoors when I’m staying somewhere like this.
Apart from that, availability of locked food/smellies storage was great and bathrooms were clean/nice.

One of the nicest campgrounds I’ve ever visited. The trail from camp leads directly to the Dunes. Running water with sinks and toilets, no showers. They were kept very clean. Very grateful for our National Parks and all of the Parks staff.
