What Guests Are Saying
Pinon Flats Campground is well-regarded for its friendly camp host, Nancy, and beautifully maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground offers a peaceful atmosphere, ample tree cover, and easy access to hiking trails. However, some sites are small and not fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, and issues with noise from other campers have been noted. Overall, it is a memorable camping experience with great amenities.

Absolutely loved this campground! Although the spaces can be tight and close together, the other campers were friendly and respectful of each others space. We were at the end of loop 2 with wonderful views of the dunes and mountains. Renovated bathrooms are super clean with heat, lights, and 3 stalls each for the women. We didn't use the new dishwashing sink, but it was clean and convenient as well. This is the quietest campground we have stayed at and although there was a full moon, we could still see lots of stars. We especially liked that there are several hiking trails, including the trail to the dunes, right from the campground so no need to drive anywhere. The camp store was closed, as it was the last week of the season, but it would be welcome any other time. We brought firewood and shared with neighbors who had none. We travel with our two big pups, and there was space to walk them around the loops as well as on the ditch, dune, and dune overlook trails. Our site had shade and sun so was perfect for late October. Will be back and loved the fall beauty and everything we experienced.

What a beautiful place. We were there for the eclipse, the park rangers were incredible in being a host of information and a place to gather to watch. The camp host by far was the best we encountered this year.
He also came around to let folks know about night planet viewing with telescopes on the evening of the 20th. We certainly enjoyed that! Loved the visitor center. We will definitely be back.

We had an incredible time at Great Sand Dunes National Park! We were expecting to have a great time but left having had more fun than we anticipated. We went in late October so the aspens were gorgeous and the temperatures much cooler than during the summer months. We began by hiking the Mosca Pass Trail, then took our 4WD Jeep on the primitive road a few miles north into the park. Be prepared to get sand everywhere and hiking up the dunes is harder than you'd think but so worth it once you get to the top. The campground itself was immaculate with pristine bathrooms and extremely well-maintained grounds. Grab some sand boards from Oasis a few miles outside the park and have a blast sandboarding the dunes! Can't wait to go back!

One of the finest National Park campgrounds in the history of camping. The architectural design is above and beyond. The staff were friendly and accommodating. They have a camp store with firewood and ice cream. What more could you ask for?

Most campsites have a little shade which is nice! Also the cleanest bathroom I have ever experienced in a campground.

Beautifully renovated campground. Flush toilets and dish washing stations were great. Easy walk to the dunes.
