About Lowry Campground

At an elevation of 9,320 feet, Lowry Campground is located between Summit Cove and Breckenridge, Colorado in the White River National Forest. This campground is in close proximity to Dillon Reservoir and a handful of trails, making it an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation. Due to the pine beetle infestation and removal of hazard trees, there is little or no shade in the campground.

My trailer is 27 feet long. I drive an F 250 and I could not fit into site 23. I tried for about 45 minutes to fit into the camp site. I had to almost jackknife my rig from the road and when I would try to swing my truck out to straighten the truck with the trailer I would run over large decorative rocks and boulders and also had to deal with a steep incline on the truck side. I was worried that I would damage my truck and trailer. I finally gave up and looked for the host but she was nowhere on site. This was terribly frustrating but fortunately we found a site in Central City to camp for the next few days. I did notice that most of the trailers in this part were of the smaller variety and would suggest that anything over about 18 feet would have trouble with this campground. I have never heard from the campground about a refund and I can't find a phone number to discuss my issue with anyone. We are extremely disappointed with this campground as we were looking forward to camping here. Beware!

The view from the campground toward the mountains is lovely! We enjoyed being in a small campground separate from the huge ones next to Dillon Reservoir. We could walk a short distance down the road for a good view of the reservoir. By walking a short distance up the ridge we could look down on the whole Keystone area, which was lovely and green -- but we were happy to be away from all that development. We especially enjoyed the Dillon Nature Preserve.

There are lots of activities, stores and restaurants in the area, although we usually avoid such things.

I often stay at Lowry campground because it is small, has electric hook-ups and is centrally located to Summit County activities. This visit there was limited water which was an inconvenience to many campers who came expecting to be able to fill up their tanks.

General

  • Please Note: One RV with tow per single site or one vehicle per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground.
  • Body contact with Dillon Reservoir prohibited, including swimming, water skiing, jetskiing and scuba diving
  • All food, beverages, trash and scented items must be properly stored when not attended. Bear-proof food lockers are provided at each site and bear-proof trash receptacles are provided at the campground.
  • Prevent the spread of invasive species by inspecting and cleaning packs, equipment, and tires before using lake or trails
  • In accordance with standard industry practices, there will be an additional vehicle fee per day on the second vehicle in each single family campsite, and on the third and fourth vehicles in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered as one vehicle for determining additional vehicle fees. The third and fourth motorcycle would also be considered as one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles.
  • Reserved Sites will be held until the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
  • Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
  • Any accepted senior passes must be entered for the discount at the time of booking for single sites only.
  • Click here for more information about White River National Forest
  • Campers must occupy the site the first night at a campsite. This prevents booking the site for Fri-Sun and showing up on Saturday.
  • Campers may leave the site for 24 hours and must occupy the site otherwise. This allows a camper to say go for an overnight backpack trip in the woods for one night and come back to their campsite the next day.
  • It is imperative that you are clear from the site on your check out day so the host can come prepare the site for the next event. Please don't be the group that makes the incoming group have to wait.
