I love this campground. The only concern I have is the surrounding forest. There is so much beetle kill around the Dillon area that it will some day go up in flames similar to the Paradise CA fire. There are few evacuation roads. The forest management needs to be addressed.

We’ve camped at Prospector for many years and love the location to the lake. This year we’ve noticed a change in host management of the campground that hasn’t been positive. We stayed several nights and never saw the host once. Also, RV next to us ran their generator most of the night and nothing was done about it by the host. We were in a truck camper and it was very loud. There were many people in tents camped right around them as well.

The only problems we experienced was weather related; in mid June. There can be high winds, which is very noisy in a tent in the middle of the night. RVs reported no problems. This happened twice in a week, the second time with rain, while we were out of the campsite. It caused a problem with the rain fly, getting the top sleeping bag wet. So we used the bottom one and all was fine.
So, the campground is very nice, be prepared for possible high winds which can occur at any time of day, with rain or clear skies.

This is a great campsite with an excellent view. The campground in general seems to be popular with people that use travel trailers, there is no electricity so be prepared to listen to generators at all hours. Generators should be against the rules at primitive campgrounds, stay home and watch tv there. People camp to have peace and quiet not listen to small gasoline engines!

Campground were kept very clean including bathrooms. It’s very close to both Dillon and Breckenridge Co. My only issue is that the trees are still small so it’s not high enough to give you shade when in a tent or that deep forest camping feel but still beautiful scenery everyday you look.

Apparently the Campground a little down the road was rented out for an all-night rave. Loud music all night long - until I called the county sheriff around 3am.

There were a bunch of thriving young trees around our site in Loop B but they weren't yet tall enough to really provide relief from the afternoon sun. Our site was very much in the open and the sun got quite intense. Not a complaint just a heads up! And everything about the campground and area I clouding the drive up there was absolutely incredible. Will definitely be staying here again and we'll bring along a canopy for shade!

From I-70, take the Silverthorne exit 205. Travel east on Highway 6,
approximately 4 mi to Swan Mountain Road. Turn right and travel for 2 mi to Prospector and Windy Point Campground sign. Take dirt road 1 mi to campground entrance.

Access to Prospector Campground is via I-70, with the Silverthorne exit 205 leading to Highway 6, which is approximately 4 miles from the campground.

General
- Please Note: One RV with tow per single site or one vehicle per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground.
- Body contact with reservoir prohibited; no swimming, water skiing, jetskiing, or scuba diving in the lake
- Prevent the spread of invasive species by inspecting and cleaning packs, equipment, and tires before using lake or trails
- Reserved Sites will be held until check out time (ELEVEN) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
- Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed.
- Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
- Any accepted senior passes must be entered for the discount at the time of booking for single sites only.

- Campers must occupy the site the first night at a campsite. This prevents booking the site for Fri-Sun and showing up on Saturday.
- Campers may leave the site for 24 hours and must occupy the site otherwise. This allows a camper to say go for an overnight backpack trip in the woods for one night and come back to their campsite the next day.
- It is imperative that you are clear from the site at 11:00am on your check out day so the host can come prepare the site for the next event. Please don't be the group that makes the incoming group have to wait.
