About Prospector

At an elevation of 9,000 feet, Prospector Campground is in the heart of Summit County in the White River National Forest. The sites offer open views to Dillon Reservoir and several mountain ranges, an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation. this was our first experience with reserving in E Loop, which we found to be rugged and desolate looking due to so many trees needing to be removed. fortunately, we were able to change to one of the other loops, all of which are more beautiful. campsites with lake views are in D Loop only, i believe. the camp host was friendly and very helpful, which was most appreciated!

Great views and very clean restrooms! I only wish they would patrol the campground to keep down the rowdy parties. Never saw a ranger of any sort.

Trash from previous campers in firepit even though it was roped off due to the current fire ban. Which Leads me to believe that when they were roping off the fire pits no one cleaned them up. Also we were leaving Fri morning to head to campground when we got an email around 10 am telling us the campground did not have water. A little more notice would have been nice. We were eating breakfast & thankfully had not left yet so we were able to fill our freshwater tank. When we got there the camp host explained what was going on. With the amount of campers this yr the well just can’t keep up with the usage. This would have been nice that this would have been explained n the email as there was water available at the campground!

The campground is very clean and the area is great! The sites could have a bit more privacy but you definitely can find some with good tree coverage if you check Google maps when selecting a site.

We really enjoyed our stay. The campground was and surrounding area was very beautiful! In addition, both the camp host families were extremely helpful and friendly. Lastly, the vault toilets were the cleanest I have ever seen! We would definitely stay here again.

Busy campground in an area of the state frequented by large numbers of tourists. Few trees. Beetle kill has taken its toll but new trees are sprouting up. In a few years there may be more privacy between sites again. There is good distance between the sites, but visually you have little privacy. This site, number 108, had a small number of trees that offered greater privacy than many of the sites. It backed up to the lake but the view was blocked by trees in the distance. We walked out with chairs for the evening sunset. A hike around the lake shore is easily accessed from the lower campground loop or a social trail behind near this campsite. Restrooms were cleaned frequently. No running water in restrooms, but in Covid times that keeps campers' time in the restrooms to a minimum. Close to Breckinridge, Dillon, Keystone. That's the plus and the minus.
Not a wilderness experience.

Hello
We ended up going to Arapahoe bay camp ground on Lake Grand, and we feel the camp ground host was totally ripping us off! We ask if we could transfer sites due to the air quality and he said no. Then we paid for a site in the middle of the campground and a different lake site opened up, he said he could not transfer us to the lake site even though we got to stay there. So I he made us pay again. We ended up paying 3 different sites to stay at one site. Same thing happened again the next night. The lake site open and he wouldn’t transfer it snd madd us pay again. Then the next day the other campground employee was there cleaning restrooms and helping while “ Jeff” was gone. She helped us again stay at the lake site instead of the one in the middle that Jeff would not refund us and she said it’s easy to just transfer. So finally we didn’t get double charged. Then when Jeff came back he seemed to get angered by this and told my husband we had to pay extra for our car. He had never said that the previous nights and now we still got stuck paying extra. We feel Jeff was totally ripping us off. All we had was a tent and a van. He made us pay for the site at Prospector, and two sites at Arapahoe because he was unwilling to transfer us to the lake site after we paid for the middle site. We have used this website before in Mi. And never had this issue. We never had a problem transferring if we found a different better site. We never had to pay extra for our car.
Please let us know why we had to triple pay to Jeff. and pay extra for a car, when it doesn’t usually work that way.
Thanks Diane Gagliano
