What Guests Are Saying
Petersburg Campground features friendly staff and well-maintained, clean facilities, making it a pleasant place to stay. Many campers appreciate the spacious, diverse sites and beautiful views, despite ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene, which has affected some amenities and scenery. While there are some drawbacks, such as restroom accessibility and low lake water levels, the overall experience remains positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Site had significant erosion. Maintaince lady call in and Ranger Christy, called in the troops, they brought in heavy equipment. They graded and compacted, and made my site #30 perfect. Thank you all.

Sites need serious repairs. Holes and ruts make it difficult to enter and exit the camping sites.
The underbrush should be cut to allow better views of the lake as well as help control snake nests around campsites and playgrounds. Dead and dying trees need to be cut. Falling trees and limbs during a storm can cause injury as well as costly damage to property.
The road around the boat landing needs repair and widening.
Consider a second vehicle pass around the main gate, for those with displayed park passes, eliminating the long wait for newcomers to finish checking in.
Guests and visitors need to be made aware of the speed limits within the park.

This is an amazing place to set up camp and stay awhile! I only stayed a week but could have easily stayed a month if it wasn’t against the rules …beautiful sites almost all on Strom Thurmond (Clark’s hill) lake. My site was #7 , and with the water a bit high I was able to launch my kayak right from my site. Most sites are shaded so it w sound be an awesome place during the summer as well and I also noticed several that had their boats tied up at their site. Paved roads throughout the campground so biking is great. I would definitely recommend and will most likely be back.

This was my first-time camping, "tent camping" at that, with my 13-year-old boy and two dogs. I overpacked not realizing the available amenities. I took advantage of what was available saving extra work and cleanup upon the end of our adventure. We truly enjoyed our time and will definitely continue to do this as to disconnect from technology and appreciate the beautiful nature the good Lord has blessed us with. The staff at the front gate was very helpful and kind to answer my many questions. The only thing I didn't quite appreciate was that the gates don't open until 7am... I wake up pretty early (5am) and had "coffee issues" (1st time camper). The sites are equipped with grills, bathrooms, lake views, opportunity for Kayaking, paddle boarding, (which my son took advantage of), fishing, trails and playgrounds to name a few...just so many things to explore. I will definitely plan and pack better next time. Considering this trip, a recon!
