We absolutely loved this campground! Not too many camping spots and they are spaced out nicely so it doesn't feel crowded. We camped in spot 12 and highly recommend as it is closer to the ocean and you can hear the waves at night. The stars were beautiful at night! I was worried it would be loud on a Saturday & Sunday night, but everyone was very respectful and peaceful. The bathrooms were clean and private. It is about a 5-10 min walk up a gravel road to the visitor center depending on what spot you are staying. No showers was the only draw back. We loved getting an early start on the Pipiwai Trail; we started a little after sunrise and didn't see anyone else until our way back. We also did late check-in, which was easy. You take a card with your last name/campsite number and pay your park fee in an envelope (we just had to go back in the morning and tell them we had a national park pass and we were good to go).

Beautiful view of the sunrise! Clean bathrooms and easy access to visitors center. Nicely kept camping area. Beware of the loud bugs....bring earplugs if you are a sensitive sleeper.

What a special treat to be able to stay at this campground. We've camped all over the world, and this one rates near the top of the list. Sitting by the ocean, watching the full moon rise and the sun setting with the waves pounding against the lava...an experience we will never forget. If you are a tent camper, reserve the walk in sites (16-20). We camped at site 14 which is in the open but had plenty of room. The lack of shade was not a problem, but if you want more seclusion, take sites 1-9. Ultimately, they're all good.

Really enjoyed camping at kipahulu campground. Only toilets, no running water so plan accordingly but a beautiful view of the ocean and sunrise. Perfect for camping a few nights and right by the park visitor centre with full bathrooms. Definitely would go back!

Stunning location for sunrise! Bathrooms were incredibly clean. Can’t beat the $8 price point. If it’s available, book it!!!

We had a great experience. Although there is no running water the toilets are super clean.. The campground is extremely clean and there is a visitor center just around the corner to fill up water bottles or use a normal restroom.

Absolutely love this campground! The sites 16-20 are amazing, being p on the cliff side and listening to the crashing waves as you sleep and getting the first peek at sunrise in the morning! We had beautiful weather during our stay so can;t really speak to the experience if there were to be a storm but it did drizzle a little and the trees helped to give some cover from the rain. There were enough trees to hang 2+ hammocks. It was super windy, though, right there on the cliff. IT wasn't always windy but it can be pretty strong wind when there is. You also can't beat the price, even with having to pay for parking.
