Was not aware had to traverse a 10 foot deep ditch to access campsite. Not a big deal when it's dry. But when it's been pouring down rain for 12 hours and packing up a campsite, terrible. And the bathrooms were out of toilet paper. Fortunately, I always bring my own. Nice area though.

Two of my sons and I stayed at Site #16 for two nights. We enjoyed biking on the tow path and (unsuccessful) fishing in the river and the creek. The site was clean as were the bathrooms. Not the quietest of camp sites as there is road noise and trains throughout the night. But, would stay there again.

Parking at this campground is on the side of a street which you have to cross a little bridge that takes you to the campground. We brought a wagon which helped to haul our gear to the site. Without the wagon we would have had to make many trips to carry it all. Even though we reserved our site, there was no note saying it was reserved and no where to check in. The site was clean but be warned there are daddy long legs EVERYWHERE. They were crawling all over our tent at night and on the picnic table. Each site has a nice view of the river but sites don’t have many trees to offer privacy.

The pedestrian bridge across the canal is midway through the campsite at Site 9 and is the official walk-in route. There are several unofficial short cuts that can shorten your carry IF the canal is dry. These won't work if the canal is wet. The short cuts are steep so good treads are needed. A wagon would help avoid these altogether. Sites 19 and 20 have an all weather, flat short cut. The paths to the river are mostly very steep. Not every campsite has it's own path to the river. I figure next time on bringing 50 feet of rope to tie off at the top to pull ourselves back up. If your campsite doesn't have it's own path to the river, there is a pretty good one behind the Restrooms and an excellent one beyond Site 1 in the woods which takes you to the best beach of all. The walk in nature of this campsite helps keep it quiet I think. It doesn't seem practical to launch a kayak from the campsites. Biking, on the other hand, doesn't get any better than this. The sites are large except that Sites 2 and 3 are smooshed up against each other. All sites have flat or flatish grassy tent rigging areas. Google Maps has this campground on street view from the bike trail so you can pick your campsite by looking it over in advance.

Between the Tow Path and Potomac and great camp site. Interesting to ride the path or just sit and watch folks go by. All quiet....except two nights in a row..around 2 AM until 3, some local with no muffler on his truck driving back and forth on the straight section of road nearby
Had to chuckle as he was either lost going somewhere or coming home..or out making America Great......again.....
Antietam Battlefield a must see.

Great place overall, however not as quiet at night as I thought it would be. A lot more cars were passing by and the camp was close to the road
