Great location, quiet campground with nicely spaces sites and lots of trees. Bathrooms were very clean and we'll maintained. Close to hiking trails and waterfalls.

Great camp ground! The sites are very spacious with a buffer of trees between you and your neighbors to make them private. There is a variety of completely shaded or some Sun as well as a few right on the lake. The vault toilets are clean and well maintained. There is potable water available. The camp hosts are very helpful and accommodating. Cell service is spotty at best in the campground but improves as you get out to the road. Plenty of trash receptacles and a free dump station. You are right in Christmas and just minutes from Municing. There are miles of trails and dozens of waterfalls to explore. We will defiantly be back. We saw everything from tents to very large rigs accommodated at mostly back in sites.

Quiet and peaceful except for night of July 5. Beginning at sometime after 10 central a lot of big fireworks were being shot off, perhaps over by the casino? Kept it up until quite late. I'm guessing NFS has no control over anything out of the campground.

This review is lengthy because I want to give an honest review on the many different PRO’s and CON’s about this campground. We reserved a spot for one night and then moved to a non-reservable site.
PRO’s: Many spots have shade throughout the day and some spots are full sun for those who need it for solar. Nice interpretive spot of Bay Furnace and easy access to beach for a refreshing dip in Lake Superior. Spot 9 (reservable) is a very nice site to be next to the water. The campground host is very nice and shows people how to use the first-come-first-serve (FF) sites for those who don’t know, and makes frequent passes in golf cart throughout the day. Firewood is for sale and a wheelbarrow is available for use to transport wood back to your site. Easy access to the dump. A casino with electric hookups is directly across the street if you can’t find an empty site and was never full during our 9-day stay. Campground is very convenient to the activities of Munising: Pictured Rocks tours, hikes to waterfalls, etc.
CON’s: The access road into the campground is full of potholes. Maybe it is purposely kept that way to discourage speeding, so just be aware. A couple of times the “Campground Full” sign was displayed at the entrance even though 2 of the FF sites were open. A couple of lucky campers who disregarded the sign ended up with a spot. Bathrooms were very clean the day we arrived, but they were not cleaned daily and by the time we left we had stopped using them. The trees could stand to be trimmed as they rubbed against our unit while navigating the interior roads to find a site – not an issue for trailers lower in height. Spot 40 (reservable) has the fire-ring and picnic table on the wrong side for a trailer and requires navigating trees – it is good for tent campers. Road noise from M28 is heard during the day/early evening in sites 28-50, don’t know about sites 1-27.

The campsite was exactly as described. The beach access and old Bay Furnace were very nice. The restrooms were kept clean & surprisingly pleasant-smelling for a pit toilet. I have no complaints!

Hosts were awesome, the vault toilets always clean, water faucets and campsites were kept clean despite some bad campers trying to burn plastic, cans, glass, etc. in the fire rings and messing up the water faucet area. Most sites are treed and cool, and walking trails surround the area leading to small sand beach areas.
The campground is kept quiet, something you cannot find in the state parks. The Forest Service HAS NOT PLACED ANY WARNINGS that the Bay Furnace day use area waterfront contains man-made slag glass "chunks" that blend in with the rocks and are quite sharp! My dog's paw was sliced open more than one inch deep and two inches long, requiring an emergency 40+ mile run to the only vet clinic for help. Be on notice there are no veterinarians in Munising.
