What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

Spots in the unbooked group campsites were sold at 9am at the visitor center. Bathrooms heated. Fire pits for cooking. Rangers held a Q&A about Chaco at the community fire pit in the evening.

Campsites were comfortable but fairly small, restrooms were clean. Chaco Canyon is an amazing place.

Wish there was a water spigot for use by rvs and vans, and that the dump station was more reliable. The sites themselves were kind of on top of each other with little privacy, but pretty incredible views and petroglyphs!

The only place to camp in Chaco. Great experience, great host, and great staff in the visitor center. The only challenge is the c. 15 miles of washboarded gravel county highway to get there. But worth it.

Water systems and bathrooms were inoperable at the time of our visit. We were made aware of that in advance and came prepared. There were five porta-potties on site.

What an amazing experience to be able to camp right by the ancient ruins and look up to the same dark sky that the Chacoans saw over a thousand years ago. The camp host greeted us upon arrival and advised us on the best way to back our trailer into the spot. Note that the dirt roads into the canyon are rough coming in from the south and washboard coming from the north. Allow an extra hour if you are pulling a trailer.

No water was a bit of a pain- but the campground was nice and clean and people were respectful of the rules and land.
