What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

I love Chaco Canyon it is my favorite place in the world. The campground is very clean and the restrooms and community sink are also very clean. The host at the campground Julia and Stephanie are the best ...Julia will be missed she retires at the end of the month . Thanks to all in Chaco to allow us to come and visit. Fellow camper advice please be aware it is a dark sky community please respect all who are trying to see the stars which the milky way is right above your head in the camp and remember to bring all you need there are no stores and who wants to go back out once you drive in ... Speaking of drives I've always came in thru the South just go slow and enjoy the drive and the cows

A wonderful place as always. Unfortunately the campground is small and sites are necessarily close together. However people are generally very respectful regarding noise and generator use so it does remain a peaceful place. There were a number of empty sites that people did not cancel. Recreation.gov needs to find a way to incentivize people to cancel or to easily modify their reservation if they plan to arrive a day later. The current system actually penalizes people for changing their reservation.

The hosts were wonderfully helpful, the site is beautiful, and UNLIKE so many other "rec.gov" CG where you have to drive all day only to find "CG FULL" because NO RESERVATIONS are taken and it's only FF we knew before driving for an hour from HWY 550 that we actually had a campsite!!

A stay in lovely Gallo campground allows a longer opportunity to visit the canyon which is truly amazing under bright stars. So grateful that leashed pets are allowed on the backcountry trails.

Gallo Campground is a great place to stay if you want to visit Chaco Canyon. The tricky part is that to get there you have to drive a 13 mile long dirt road that is VERY bumpy. But, once you're there it's a great spot. The campsites are not very private, as the vegetation is low-growing, but that's ok because it is such a beautiful spot. Surprisingly for such a remote location, the bathrooms have running water and flush toilets.

We loved that there are archaeological sites right on the campground. The views and sunsets are very nice, too. The sites are closely spaced but not to the point of being a problem. We were at the Far East end of the loop and directly downwind from the neighbors campfire. That was the only issue we had -pretty minor. The description is not kidding about the last 3 miles of the road being rough. Pack your RV accordingly 😀
