What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

Gallo is great to have right in Chaco Canyon National Park. Although there were issues with the restrooms/water being out the first night, they got things up and running. Guys worked all night to fix the pumps. Next day things were up then a water pipe into the campground caused another outage. But that was fixed and one restroom facility was up, while one was down. It is a well ran park. My campsite however, sucked for my teardrop trailer, it is available for a trailer but you cannot setup in the campsite itself, unless a tent. Site 8 is not good for trailers, you will camp out in the parking spot. Luckily I met my friend and her group at Gallo, her friend used my campsite for her tent so the space got used. Overall aside from small things, being an far out place from other things a great park. Just be prepared.

The campground host was very nice and the campgrounds were really nice and the restrooms were very clean and of coarse you can’t beat the views. We went on three hikes and they were very nice did a couple guided tours with Roland and he was great. Our next trip will hopefully be for 4 nights so we can just take in the views and do some more hikes.

First, don't expect private secluded campsites here -- a popular campground, with closely-spaced tent and RV sites. That said, it is a fantastic place to enjoy the canyon. Good fire rings, nice toilet facilities. Spectacular views.

My friends and I stayed in Site #10 for 5 days, close to the restroom but next to group camp sites, although that was not a problem. Unfortunately, due to a mechanical problem (we were told), there was no water for a combined 3 days, and thus no restrooms. Park staff opened the loop to allow access to the composting toilets, which was helpful. Fortunately, we had filled our water containers upon arrival, so we had plenty of drinking water. Additionally, the park host and visitor center provided additional drinking water for those that needed it. Sadly, on our last night, the campers across from us, who had previously ignored at least two warnings about leaving their dogs unrestrained, were very loud until past midnight. However, all things considered, we had a good experience, and I plan to return for a fourth visit next year!

Wonderful place but you need more than a day to really appreciate it. If all you can do is a day trip plan for a long day. Bring food, make a picnic and lots of drinks.
We spent a week camping, in an RV, and still could have spent more time.
Wonder experience. Great staff and good resources at the visitor center.

I highly recommend camping at Gallo CG in lieu of a day trip to Chaco. We stayed 3 nights, which was just about perfect! We had time to hike and explore the ruins. Yes, the road coming in is rough. (We came in the north entrance.) We were in an F350 dually with a truck camper. We took it slowly and did fine. I would NOT attempt to drive the road when the road is wet. Visiting Chaco had been our to-do list for YEARS! It did not disappoint!!

Camp host was great! The water went out, but a crew worked through the 15 degree night to restore it! The host handed out water to tide us over. How great!

Camping at Chaco for several days is the best way to experience and explore this special place. Sites are a bit close together.

The South Loop hike was well worth the four mile round trip. Climb the hill behind the camp host to get a couple of bars from Verizon
