What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

I am new to rv camping and the camp host, Julia was very helpful. The setting was beautiful the campground was clean and fresh water was abundant. We are planning another trip. Many thanks to Julia she is a true treasure.

All around great campground but I gotta say the coolest part was that my campsite was right next to some ruins. So cool!

This is a great campground - clean restrooms, dispenser for filling your water bottles, great Rangers at the Visitor’s Center.

Bathrooms the cleanest I’ve ever encountered at a campground. Appreciates the electric outlet where I could charge my phone

Chaco is one of the most magical places on the planet. The campground, however, breaks its spell. While the facilities are great (utility sink, fire rings, filtered drinking water), the campground crams everyone into a tiny area with horrible acoustics. All sounds and conversations are amplified against the rocks. At minimum, it would be very nice if they could fix the bathroom doors so that they don't slam shut (at all hours of the day and night). Also, group sites should be separated from the rest of the campground -- perhaps move them to the area currently closed due to rock slides? Just turn that parking lot into several group sites -- they even could have their own bathrooms. Will certainly be back to Chaco, but I'm not looking forward to the campground.

Loved camping here. Such a beautiful park and unique place. Bathrooms were clean, they have flushing toilets at the campgrounds. Beware the fire ants :D

The Gallo Campground was a great place to stay to explore Chaco culture and visit the magnificent pueblos and experience the many trails throughout the canyon while providing a place to relax midday before heading back out to do more, while at night being able to enjoy a campfire.
The restrooms were kept clean and plenty of camp hosts available almost 24 hours was very helpful. The other guests that were there were very respectful of each other with the campground being mostly silent by 10pm each night, with only the nighttime critters being heard.
The location of the campground allowed for a perfect viewing of the sunrise over the ancient canyon as well as the nearly full moon while I was there (early October).
The couple of small, farming pueblos at the Gallo Campground, as well as petroglyphs and pictographs scattered about on the rocks, makes it more amazing, especially when thinking of how you are in a place, and amongst a civilization, that is sacred and should be respected and revered.
Since this was my first trip to Chaco, the experience was so wonderful that I can't wait to make a return trip and see what I may have missed before.

I think you need to stay at least 2 nights to appreciate all that Chaco offers: the trails, sites, sights, Visitors Center.... The campground was well-maintained, as were the bathrooms, except for when a school group of high school girls was using it, en masse, to warm up with the air dryer, wash their hair in the sink, and apply their make-up. This is a training issue that teachers need to address before hauling teenagers to any campground!! Camp host was joyful
