Lake Powhatan

Beautiful park

This is a great place to stay if you plan to visit the Biltmore, which is only 20 minutes away. Quiet, back in the woods enough to have no road noise. The site was a full hookup’s , which is very nice, it was also relatively level also.

Many great campsites. Front gate personnel were very friendly and knowledgeable. The back road up to the Blue Ridge Parkway was beautiful and full of wild flowers and Montain Laurel.

Lake Powhatan’s Lakeside Loop is a nice place to stay. There’s lots of room between sites with plenty of privacy. Some need quite a few leveling blocks though. The people who work there are very friendly and I like the 2pm check in. There’s lots to do in the area. My only concern is the branches on the road to the campground really need trimming. I do not like the fee structure where water and electricity are charged separately. This is done to minimize the discount to pass holders and most campgrounds do not do this. There’s way more to like than dislike so I’ll be coming back to camp.

Great location, spacious sites as well as space between other campers. Easy access to the facilities, and plenty areas to hike.

Excellent campsite with immaculately kept tent pad. Good restroom - with a heater inside, which was nice. Good hiking trails. Mountian bike riding was popular. I used the campground to access Blue Ridge Parkway on road bike. Staff was helpful. I would have liked to have been offered a good trail map upon arrival at the gate.

Loved this campground. We stayed on a non-electrical site at Big John enveloped by a tree canopy. Loved biking and walking from the campground to the Arboretum. The bathrooms were cleaned daily. The staff were helpful and pleasant. Although there are a limited number of electrical sites (usually booked), I do wish Lake Powhatan would offer a charging station at for batteries as many people who love camping rely on a battery for medical equipment like cpap machines and phones. We were able to stay for 3 wonderful nights with our battery but could not make it for 4 without charging. Also, we did have cell service on our site with Spectrum ( Verison towers).

Fantastic

This was our first time at Lake Powhatan and we loved it. The sites are wooded and fairly private. The well maintained restrooms are accessible through paths from each campsite in the center of each loop. The staff was friendly and informative. We also enjoyed the short distances to downtown, the Arboretum, and the Biltmore.
