Love this campsite. So well maintained a volunteers at the front desk are also friendly . The sites are laid out in such a way that you may be next to someone, but you’re not right on top of them and the trees provide adequate privacy. And not to mention the clean bathrooms in the showers.
This trip we went to the Dupont recreational area, which is a little less than an hour away. Four different trails and 4 for waterfalls. I highly recommend it.

Nicely wooded, cute small lake with beach and small fishing pier. Very quiet and sites have good separation and privacy. Some sites are 2 levels so make sure it will work for your needs before booking. Bath house is small and limited, but clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Bears in the area while we were there, but did not see any. We had zero cell coverage with ATT. Site 52.

I love lake Powhatan! It is beautiful and well kept. There are mountain biking trails that you can access directly from the campground. I like the proximity to Asheville. Close enough for easy access, but far enough that you feel fully immersed in the outdoors. The staff that I interacted with were all exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Had an amazing time at Lake Powhatan campground during our 5 night stay. Lakeside Loop is well forested, with great borders between sites, leading to a quiet, rejuvenating experience. The trail to the lake makes enjoying sunshine and nature there easy. The close access to Bent Creek, the NC Arboretum and all of Asheville allows for a rich and diverse choice of activities! We live in Waynesville nearby but we’ll come back often. It’s a real treasure.

We used Lake Powhatan Big John loop as a one night stop over on our way to camping in far southwestern NC. Sites are fairly level, easy to access for our small trailer and convenient for our travels. We love to walk to the Lake and enjoy the quiet forest.

Beautiful sites—lots of space and privacy between sites. It feels like you are deep in the forest while being so close to services. Great combination. Spotty cell service for ATT, but enough to check email, text, and phone.
