Great campground! We brought our scout troop and booked a cluster of sites. It was lovely and perfectly close to all the things we wanted to do in Pisgah.

We love Lake Powhatan - it is the one spot we come back to multiple times a year.

Visited 7-22 & 7-23-2023: campsite was large enough and clean but there was no water hookup which I assumed was included with Standard Electric rate and no warning about lack of RV water hookup in the Important Information notices about the campsite (1st time visiting). So we couldn't use the shower or toilet in our RV as i had not filled our fresh water tank for boondocking. We were near the restrooms which had hot showers but they were set up for individual use--lock the door. This became inconvenient in the mornings as there were only 2 bathrooms and 2 showers for that part of the campground which was insufficient for the number of campers!
Otherwise, campsite was in a nicely wooded area and well-staffed with campground hosts to answer our questions. Lake Powhatan is more of a pond with no boating or floats allowed so we went to nearby Lake Julian Park to use the paddleboats.

This heavily used park offers great hiking and biking trails, including an easy hike to the arboretum. However, we had a concerning encounter with an aggressive off-leash dog on one of the trails.
The road leading to the park has numerous trees that can hit the roof of a class A motorhome, which is unavoidable. Additionally, the dump station is awkwardly positioned. The bathrooms are consistently busy, poorly ventilated, and sometimes out of service.
Our camping experience was negatively affected by a neighboring camp host who smoked continuously, causing smoke to drift onto our site and making it unpleasant to stay outside. Due to these issues with the smoking camp host and inadequate restroom facilities, we are unlikely to return to the park anytime soon.

Beautiful park and well maintained campground. Our second visit here. Close to Asheville for activities. Lack of cell service was only negative.
