What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Great campground for families. Well maintained and safe for everyone. Plenty of open space, great creek for the kids to play, and fun fishing with the little ones/

We really enjoyed Smokemont Campground. Convenient (short 5 min drive) to Cherokee. Restaurants, shopping and even the Harrah’s Casino. The campground is typical National Parks. No bells and whistles but beautiful campground. Creeks run past many of the sites and lots of access for those who don’t have direct access from their site. Clean campsites. Good picnic tables and fire pits and convenient bath houses. Check in process is easy even after hours. We stayed 4 nights (not consecutive) and there were always a few open sites.
The swimming and tubing options in the beautiful river in the heart of Cherokee is great! So many families enjoying the water! The people in Cherokee were very friendly and proud of their heritage. Love Smokemont and Cherokee!
AND - enjoy the incredible growing Elk population!! We saw them every evening. One big boy with a 16 point rack!

Excellent campground. Our favorite in the smokies. Guards were the friendliest and most helpful. Close to anything we needed. Sites, towns, etc. bathrooms were kept nice, clean, and convenient.

We stayed at site F30 in the RV-only loop and had full shade, was level, and plenty of room for our 22’ trailer and tow vehicle. The site is not directly on the creek but it was close enough to hear it. Several campers ran generators, but all were respectful of quiet hours. We enjoyed the nature trail and the trail along Bradley Fork, both accessed from the campground. Mingus Mill, a working grist mill, is nearby and was interesting. We aborted, due to rain, a day trip to Cataloochee to see the elk herd and historic buildings there, but there were plenty of elk in a field near the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. We also enjoyed Mingo Falls just outside of Cherokee.
